I’m a little late on getting a post up this morning because my sister and her family came to spend the night.  They had been vacationing down in Phoenix and were making their way back home to Canada, and made a pit stop here for a few hours.

It was great fun seeing my nephews (ages 4 and 18 months).  They stopped for a few hours on their way down, but other than that this is the first time I have seen the boys, since the younger one was born.

I love cooking up new recipes in my kitchen.  I have a collection of cook books, magazine clippings and bookmarked sites with waaaaay more recipes then I could ever use.  For the most part I have a few criteria that makes me save them:

1. They have to contain ingredients that I recognize
2. I have to be able to modify it, because my family is picky
3. It has to be non-labor intensive

You might remember awhile ago I posted a review about the George Foreman Evolve Grill.  Well I recently got to try out another George Foreman product that aids in healthier cooking; the Smart Kitchen Multicooker.  I could seriously use this for most of the meals I make.

Okay I know it may seem strange after just getting myself a bread machine that I’m writing a post on behalf of Pillsbury for their popular Simply… line.

But here’s the deal, I don’t always plan my meals out in advance (crazy, huh? All vanillas are not created equally.  And until just recently I had no idea that vanilla came in a form other than a liquid.  For those of us that enjoy baking, but are not in the class of ‘pasty chef’, vanilla paste might be a new ingredient.  I received some to use from Nielsen-Massey.

Dark and White Chocolate Chunk Cookies with Ginger

The addition of crystallized ginger gives these chocolate chip cookies a surprising kick.  Crystallized ginger can be found in the spice section or the Asian foods section of most supermarkets.  Makes about 2 dozen.

We used to eat white bread all the time in our home.  With more attention being given to whole grains in the marketplace though, and reading many articles about it, I knew that we needed to started replacing our white bread with whole wheat bread.  I made the switch gradually, starting with whole grain white, and shifting over to whole wheat after a few months, now we eat whole wheat bread almost exclusively.

I recently procured a bread machine, and the first loaf of bread I made it in it was a Whole Wheat Honey Bread made from Tropical Traditions Organic Stone-Ground Whole Wheat Flour.
