Grilling With ConAgra

One of the reasons I love summer so much, is because it gives me a break from cooking.  Winter lasts so long here, that I am so excited when grilling season starts so I can hand the reigns for dinner over to Hubby a few times a week.

There are so many things one can make on the grill, but a favorite of the kids is always hot dogs.  I don’t know what it is about them that makes them more special than chicken or burgers, but it seems that kids prefer them.  Maybe it’s because hot dogs are easy to eat one handed? LOL.  I guess that frees the other hand up to grab hold of that cold drink or brownie!

Review & Giveaway: Wits & Wagers Family Game

I’ve got to be honest, when I hear that a game is geared for families I figure that it will be a long suffering game for adults, really geared for little kids.  Wits & Wagers Family is nothing like that though.  Instead what we found while playing, is a fun game for all ages, where you can rely on your ‘wagers’ rather than your ‘wits’ and still win the game!

Many trivia games require you to know completely obscure details and because of that, if you aren’t a trivia buff they are no fun to play.  Wits & Wagers Family puts hundreds of trivia questions (yes, some are obscure!) at your fingertips, but you don’t have to know the answer to them in order to rack up points.  All the answers are numbers, and you only need to “guess” at the correct amount along with your opponents.  If you are the closest without going over…great…you score points that round.

Travel Tips for Kids Flying By Themselves

Summer vacation is a great time to send your little ones on a flight to visit grandparents or other relatives this summer.  But, there are so many questions parents have when it comes to sending their kids solo on a flight.

Interestingly, there are no set Department of Transportation regulations concerning travel by these “unaccompanied minors,” but the airlines have specific procedures to protect the well-being of youngsters flying by themselves.

I Am Hutterite – A Book by Mary-Ann Kirkby

I had first heard about Mary-Ann Kirby’s memoir ‘I Am Hutterite‘ from my mom last October.  Mom knows how much I read, and she was eager to share this story with me.  I am always busy with book reviews though, so took note of the title, tucked it into a corner of my mind, and promptly went on to my next book.

Then a few weeks ago I received an e-mail asking me if I would like to receive a copy of ‘I Am Hutterite’ to review on my blog.  I recalled my mom’s praise of the book, and said that I would.

The Hutterite community is not foreign to me.  Having grown up in Manitoba, I had some connection with them.  My mother-in-law purchased her chickens and eggs from a colony.  The beloved feather pillow that my husband bought me for a birthday that was used for many years, was lovingly made on a colony.

DIVE INTO POOL SAFETY WITH UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES

As the weather heats up, families will seek refuge in the cool waters of their neighborhood or backyard pools. Although there’s nothing like a quick dip on a hot summer’s day, pool season doesn’t come without potential risks. In fact, approximately 4,200 people go to the emergency room every year due to pool or spa-related injuries.

This may seem like just a statistic, but it’s not.  It can happen to you.  I know because it happened in our family.  Our nephew’s life was cut short in a swimming pool accident.  It only takes the turn of your head, a slip, a bump and your life can change in a second.

I grew up with having a swimming pool in the backyard, and there were many incidents that I can recall where fortunately help came quickly, but it’s not guaranteed, and seemingly innocent activities around water can turn devastating quickly.

This summer, Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a leading product safety

Switched on Schoolhouse Series: Introduction

In the past few years that we have been homeschooling, for a lot of our subjects I have taken a bit of this and a bit of that from different resources to make up our curriculum.  Now that Amber is officially in high school though and I need to keep a transcript, I wanted a curriculum that would be easier for me to keep track of grades and know that she is covering all the basics that need to be.

That in itself is not a terribly difficult thing to find, but Amber decided she would much rather do her school work on the computer than using text books or work books.  Now our options become much more limited.

Switched On Schoolhouse (Alpha Omega Publishers) is a complete curriculum, allowing the student to do all of their studies on the
