Switched-On Schoolhouse: After a Year

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family’s experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

Well here it is, a year has gone by since I made my first post introducing the Switched-On Schoolhouse software curriculum to you all. I went through all my past posts to make a final list of what we liked most about the software.

Switched-On Schoolhouse: Grade Reports

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family’s experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

We’re finished our homeschool year, and are taking a few weeks break before we start up again.  I still have some “cleaning” up to do, since Amber is in High School and I have to keep a good record of her grades for her transcript.

Switched-On Schoolhouse Series: Updated Every Year

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family’s experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

If you’ve been a regular reader of my Switched-On Schoolhouse series you’ll notice that the picture of the packaging featured to the left is different than all my other posts so far.  That’s because Switched-On Schoolhouse releases updated programs each year.  This is one of the reasons I like SOS.  Most ‘paper’ curriculum only revises itself every couple of years.

Switched-On Schoolhouse Series: Enhance Other Curriculum

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family’s experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

We’re winding down our posts for the year that we’ve been using Switched-On Schoolhouse software in our home.  As our school year is finished (we school year round so we take a longer break at the end of April and begin again at the end of May beginning of June).

Pre-designed curriculum doesn’t always suit everyone’s needs, and, you may choose to develop your own core curriculum

Installing Switched-On Schoolhouse

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family’s experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

When sharing about our experiences with Switched-On Schoolhouse offline with some homeschoolers, I was asked the question:

“Can I install Switched-On Schoolhouse on more than one computer?”

The answer is YES if you have a home network!

Switched-On Schoolhouse FACS is Not Your Mother’s Home Ec

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family’s experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

When I was in Junior High I took three years of Home Economics.  I’m dating myself by telling you it was almost 25 years ago.  We’re talking old school, girls only, cooking and sewing.  Now I can honestly say I did learn a thing or two.  I learned foundational cooking and baking skills that have served me well over the years.  I can also sew decently, the most important thing learned from those units being hemming since I am only 4’9”.  But that was the extent of our learning in Home Ec…cooking and sewing.

Switched-On Schoolhouse Series: Novels & Dramas – and I’m not talking about my child…

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family’s experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

If you’re curious about the title of my post, it was just an inference that my daughter can be a Drama Queen on occasion (and then some!), and the simple answers that can be supplied, more often than not, turn into novels instead of one sentence responses, but now I’m the one that digresses…

Switched-On Schoolhouse Series: Free Placement Tests

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family’s experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

Maybe you’re ready to switch curriculum in your homeschool, or perhaps you are bringing your children home to school them after they’ve been in a traditional classroom setting.  If either of these describe your situation, you may wonder what grade level or type of course to purchase for your children.

Switched-On Schoolhouse Series: Tiny Tutor

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family’s experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

One of the things we have really come to enjoy in regards to the Switched-On Schoolhouse software is the Tiny Tutor, which are the embedded video clips that are peppered throughout the lessons.  These tiny video boxes (hence their name “Tiny Tutor”), further explain or expound upon the information that the student is learning, where text just isn’t quite enough.
