Baked Apples with Walnuts and Cream

I’ve been reading a cookbook that I’ll be reviewing soon, and it had me drooling from page one. There are so many unique but ‘comforting’ recipes in it, and I couldn’t help but make a bunch from it. One of them is a dessert from the author’s childhood, and is perfect for the fall season because it involves apples! I made it for an evening snack the other night, and it was simply ‘sweet comfort.’

Showing Off My New Chicago Cutlery DesignPro Santuko Knife!

I can’t believe it’s already been a month since I added the Chicago Cutlery DesignPro Knives to my kitchen routine.

I filmed a little ‘demonstration’ video showing both the Santuko knife in use, and then a comparison between the DesignPro 8″ Chef Knife next to another similar 8″ knife that I also own, to give you an idea side by side the difference.

All I Can Think of are New Homes

After I finish schooling, cooking, cleaning and blogging, I grab a cup of coffee and sit in front of the computer and peruse the home listings in the area of where we want to move to.

I don’t know what the market is like for Kanas City homes, Chicago homes or San Francisco homes, but I know there are plenty of homes in the place we’re moving to that I’d gladly purchase.

3 Heart-Healthy Recipes for Cholesterol Month

September is National Cholesterol Education Month, and high cholesterol can mean increased risk for heart disease. Those that are at risk for either or both, can lower their risk by making simple changes in their lifestyle.

One of those changes is to incorporate corn oil into your meals. Research shows that plant sterols, like the ones in corn oil, can significantly reduce the body’s cholesterol absorption. It’s also recommended that those at risk select choices that are low in sodium.

Act Out Loud: Teen Driving Contest

One of the things that we learned about at the Allstate Teen Driving Summit back in July was the Act Out Loud contest. We were under a non-disclosure agreement about it until now, because registration wasn’t open for it until September 4th and they didn’t want any group getting an unfair advantage over another because they already knew about it (wink).

A group of students from Idaho was at the summit representing the school that won last years competition.

#BackToNatureMac Taste Test Challenge and Give Away!

I’m going to be completely honest and upfront…I don’t buy Organic Mac and Cheese. We generally buy the brand in blue (oh yes you know the one I’m talking about), so when I was approached to do a taste test between Back to Nature Organic Mac and Cheese and the leading competitor, I was interested not just to see if Back to Nature could stand against the competition, but also to see if organic Mac and Cheese tastes any different than regular Mac and Cheese.

Lincoln – Trailer

A couple of weeks ago I posted that DreamWorks Pictures was releasing a movie called “Lincoln” in November which brings to the big screen the last few tumultuous months of the 16th President’s term in office.

We’ve adjusted our homeschool schedule so that we should be right around that section in American History when the movie is released. It releases in exclusive venues November 9th, and then expanding into more theaters November 16th, I just hope it is showing where we live at the time, so we can take advantage of making this a
