Switched-On Schoolhouse Series: Updated Every Year

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family’s experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

If you’ve been a regular reader of my Switched-On Schoolhouse series you’ll notice that the picture of the packaging featured to the left is different than all my other posts so far.  That’s because Switched-On Schoolhouse releases updated programs each year.  This is one of the reasons I like SOS.  Most ‘paper’ curriculum only revises itself every couple of years.

Why is that important?  While basic learning skills don’t ever really change (I mean 1+1 will always = 2, and the word cat will always be spelled c-a-t), current events and news changes so very quickly!!

As we’ve been using Switched-On Schoolhouse throughout the year, the software has prompted us to download updates to the software.  That’s something a text book just can’t do!

It’s easy to do too, which is something that non-tech savvy parents will appreciate if they don’t know where to start.  It’s not overwhelming at all.  When you launch the program from the teacher’s dashboard, a pop-up box with the details of the update will appear.  If you want to check to see if there are any, you hit the okay button and the program will search for revisions to the courses you have installed.

The screen shots I’ve taken show that there were no revisions to update our software.  When it does find one, the program will guide you on downloading and executing the revision so your curriculum is up to date.  I’m loving that about SOS!
