It’s hard to believe that April 15th is just six weeks away.  When my husband and I started working on our taxes this year, we were commenting on how so many things have changed for us from when we got married and filed our first tax return jointly.

From having a child, moving to another country, moving to another state, being self-employed and selling investments; filing our tax returns has never been a one-size-fits-all method.  Over the years we have accumulated some tips, and as part of the Master Lock Live Secure Safety Squad and our March theme of “Tax Tips For All Life Stages,” I’d like to share a few of them with you.  I hope you can use them to make tax time a little easier.

When my parents were in their 60s they decided to sell their large home and downsize to apartment living.  With less maintenance and a lock and leave set up this opened up their retirement future to more traveling.

And traveling they have done.  From doing 3-month mission trips to Africa, taking tour excursions in Israel, joining us on a cruise to Alaska, soaking up the sun in Mexico, going back to their birth country of Germany and more, those two have globe trotted to destinations and done some pretty great things in the last 10 years.

I’m beginning to feel the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.  My daughter has presented us her Holiday Wish List – a PS Vita being at the top of it, and I’m already making space in the freezer for all the holiday goodies I’ll be baking.  Amid all the activities, travel and shopping going on, one really shouldn’t forget about family safety during the holidays.
