Language is life. As social creatures, our ability to communicate with those around us define the limits and borders of our world. Learning a foreign language not only expands our ease of travel, but expands our world, inviting in beautiful complexity of new cultures and ideas. It would be hard to argue that learning a foreign language is good for you, but of course, learning a language can be a Giant investment of time and resources.

While we’re finished our homeschool journey and I had not anticipated blogging any more about it, I ended up with an interesting e-mail in my inbox earlier this month that I found too interesting not to share.

For all of you with high school aged students looking to either beef up their transcript or earn dual college credit here is an easy, inexpensive way to get three credits from an accredited institution, the very first online course from HISTORY and The University of Oklahoma: “United States, 1865 to the Present”.

Here are a few fun apps for SeaWorld® Kids that I think your children or grandchildren will enjoy.  With the recent release of Penguins of Madagascar Movie and the new North Wind group that appeared in it, I bet a couple of them will really resonate with those kids that have seen the movie too.

It’s no surprise to anyone that we used technology a lot in our home to teach our daughter.   Before there were tablets and smartphones, back in the late 90s when she was a toddler, she was busy pounding away at a computer keyboard playing edutainment software unknowingly learning letters and numbers.  Now parents can take electronic educational learning on the go with them, and Joy Sprouts is a free iOS/iPad app for preschoolers that will have them playing and learning at the same time.

“Being a tourist” in your own city can be fun.  Even though we’ve lived in DFW for over a year now, we’re still discovering the attractions that this area has to offer.   And there are a. lot. of them!  This past May when my parents came to visit for Amber’s graduation we took them to many different sites and places and one of them was the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.  Political leanings aside, if you’re ever in an area where any Presidential Library is – be sure to stop in and see it.  They are well worth the admission price and the time spent in them.

Yes folks that’s just a week and a bit away!  Whether you have pre-schoolers or grade schoolers there are fun things you can do to celebrate this day.  Homeschoolers can plan a whole day around Johnny Appleseed and of course others can bring their knowledge and fun to school and celebrate before and after too!

Dolphin Tale 2 opens in theaters this Friday, September 12!
