I honestly thought that when we dropped our daughter off at college in August that we would see her frequently on weekends.  Boy was I wrong.  She’s taken to college like a fish to water and has only been home once in the last six weeks.  I’m actually really glad about that but it means that I didn’t send her with nearly enough cleaning supplies than she needs.  I decided to visit her this past weekend and make my delivery a little fun and Halloween themed by putting together a “Trick or Treat” box filled with A Plus Values for a (hopefully) A Plus Student!

Since we moved to Texas, I’ve been feeling as if I need to up my ante when it comes to sauce recipes.  We’ve been busy familiarizing ourselves with our community and the local businesses, many of which happen to be taco restaurants.  I think in a 5-mile radius of our home there is one on every other corner (okay, I may be exaggerating a bit..but not much!).  The pickiest taste-buds this side of Jupiter live in my home though so I need to do a bit of improvising.  I’d love to make dishes that incorporate a sauce that has a ‘Tex-Mex’ flavor, but my family hears ‘Tex-Mex’ and runs for cover.

Oh my goodness y’all, in exactly ONE week I’ll be dropping my baby off at college.  I still find it hard to believe that I won’t be able to hug her good night each evening or yell at her to take her headphones off so she can hear what I’m asking her each day 😉  Since I’ve had her home with me for the last six years, it will be an adjustment for sure.  I’m very thankful T-mobile 4G is going to make it easier on me.

Not long after we physically say good-bye, I’m going to be traveling.

In all our years combined (and my husband has 50 of them to his life so far!) no one in our family knows what it is like to be hungry.  We can reach into the pantry, fridge or freezer for anything from a juice drink to chicken nuggets at any given time.  After having a child of my own, I had a keen passion for helping the plight of hungry kids in my own community who might go to bed with an empty stomach at night.

The Hunger Heroes campaign is all about action.  It’s about turning families into superheroes, and tapping into the incredible power of giving. 

As a parent taking Amber to the doctor for immunizations was never something I looked forward to.  She was full of anxiety and her drama queen persona would melt down into something worthy of the Oscars.  Promising her a special treat and a fun bandage would calm her down just long enough for the nurse to give her the shot.  Afterward Amber would proclaim “That didn’t hurt so much!”  Yet she would still hold me to my promise of the treat 😉

I think she was fully convinced that when she finished high school all that was behind her.  She was not amused in the least to find on her university admissions forms that she needed a meningitis shot.

When my friends say “let’s meet up for coffee,” what they really mean is “let’s meet up at Tammy’s house.”  You see I’ve got my very own built in coffee bar in my house, and I’ll play ‘barista’ for anyone who wants to share a cup with me 🙂  You name it, I have it, and my coffee machine collection includes not just one, but two Keurig brewers.  When I have guests in summer I replace the hot beverage concoctions and brew iced coffee, iced tea and low calories drinks, over ice.  And yes I do that with my Keurig!

There’s a love/hate relationship that goes on about your children growing up.  You love that you can give your kids more freedom and independence, but you hate that because of that you worry and have sudden added expenses.  Any of you with teenagers on your auto insurance know exactly what I mean.

I know I write a lot about our cell phone plans on my blog but when you’re on to something great, like lowest priced unlimited plans, you just want to tell everyone about it.

The past two weeks would have been really difficult for us without a cell phone plan.  Between my blog, picking up friends and family at the airport, and traveling around the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, we used a lot of data, text and minutes.

This whole high school graduation season of life has been so busy AND so much fun for us.  It was ALL about Amber.  She had a great time hanging out with long time and new friends, reminiscing about her school years and eating and doing all the things she liked.  Amber’s always been fond of Kool-Aid fruit drinks so when I was shopping at Walmart for her graduation open house party, I made sure to pick up the new 96 oz. bottles of Kool-Aid.

You may have noticed that I haven’t posted in a couple of days on my blog, and that’s because we’ve been busy with guests and celebrations celebrating our daughter’s high school graduation!  I can’t believe that my baby is finished.  We had a grand time pulling out all the stops for her though, and I can not wait to show you all the things we did.

Even though we only recently moved to Texas, Amber is a really social person, and has managed to make quite a few friends.  We also had some guests fly in for the event and we as parents invited some of our new friends.  It ended up being quite the crowd congregating on our back deck.
