As much as you all know how much I love coffee, there is another beverage that grabs my attention…and that would be wine. I recently had the opportunity to receive a shipment from Uncorked Ventures Wine Club and would like to share with you about their offerings and service.
Uncorked Ventures Wine Club has three different options. The Explorations Wine Club offers the buyer a 2 bottle shipment of 1 White & 1 Red at the cost of $40 per shipment. The Special Selections Wine Club includes 2 bottles of Red wine. These bottles are limited production and high demand varieties of wine, perfect for those with discerning tastes. The cost per shipment is $95. And then there is the Reserve Selections Wine Club. Each shipment will include 2 or 3 Red wines. These are ‘cellar worthy’ wines 🙂 so understandably the cost is a bit higher at $195 per shipment. There are numerous ways to try these clubs out from a one time shipment to monthly, quarterly, etc. So there is no obligation to sign up for monthly shipments if you just want to try it out one time to see what you think. I really like that.
I received wine that would be sent in the Special Selections Wine Club. I don’t consider myself a wine connoisseur, but I do know a good glass of wine when I have one. I rarely spend $50 a bottle, keeping my ‘special occasion wine’ at a lower price point than that, so I figured I was in for an exceptional taste testing with one of the Special Selections varietals.
The 2010 vintage VinRoc RTW (red table wine) is one of the wines that brothers-in-law Mark Aselstine and Matt Krause go treasure-hunting for in California, Oregon and Washington wine country in order to bring their customers at Uncorked Ventures the very best wines that few people have ever heard of. They build relationships with the winemakers and vineyard proprietors, finding themselves offered access to special limited production wines that astonish and impress. This “feet on the ground” approach allows them to offer both high-scoring wines and wines that would score highly—if they weren’t such a secret.
Sure enough, the 2010 VinRoc RTW scores 90 from the Connoisseurs’ Guide. It is a proprietary 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot blend.
The first sip of the 2010 VinRoc RTW is rich. It has a bold, full-bodied taste. The notes of currant fruit and cocoa make it a good pairing with fall vegetable dishes, cheeses or as a night cap with a piece or two of dark chocolate 😉
I was pleased with the selection I received from the Uncorked Venture Special Selections Wine Club and I would recommend trying the club to other wine lovers or as a gift for someone you know who is a wine enthusiast. I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
I have always wondered if the really expensive wines were that much better than the lower priced wines that I purchase.
I always feel so grown up when I drink wine. I love visiting the vineyards and trying new kinds. And I love the stories of the wines!
I want to like wine, but just have never found one I care for… I like a really sweet wine. But this sounds like it would be great as gifts for the wine lovers in my life.
A wine club sounds perfect for my family and I! We always enjoy trying new varieties and are even attending a special Wine Walk tonight.
If you’re looking for a wine club with even a little customer service, keep looking. I’m still waiting for a shipment we received as a wedding gift in late December. It took numerous calls and emails to reach one of the owners who actually admitted they’re had complaints before. My next call is to the BBC.
2017: I subscribed to this wine club in August and have been billed twice but never received any wine. I have been trying to contact the owners for two weeks through their support portal, email and phone but have never received any response. While their billing system works perfectly, their ability to deliver their product or service their customers is absolute abysmal.
I purchased a year’s worth of quarterly shipments from this company for a gift in January 2016. I’m still waiting on either my money back or the wine to ship. I’ve had numerous conversations with the owner and several empty promises. This last conversation resulted in an actual shipment and I received ups tracking numbers, only to check the status after a couple of days to find out Mark had the packages returned to him. My next call is BBB too.
