VELVEETA Cheesy Skillets is a dinner kit (with multiple flavor pouches and creamy Velveeta cheese sauce) that is an easy way for moms to make a meal with just one pound of chicken or beef, and her skillet.
It’s a dinner kit that combines your family’s favorite recipes with the great taste of Velveeta cheese. In less than 20 minutes you’ll have a dish that the entire family will love.
My family and I were down in Dallas a week prior to me attending BlogEats, and as we walked around a store there, my husband noticed these on the shelf. He asked me if they were new because we had never seen them before where we live. So it was quite neat to not just learn about these new dinner kits at the Kraft Kitchen but also to make one of the varieties.
In my kitchen group with Kathleen (Life With 4 Boys) and Liz (A Nut in a Nutshell) – we forged the family dinner with the Ultimate Cheeseburger Mac variety.
I was a bit intimidated by the gas burners (I’ve only ever cooked on an electric stovetop!) – and so I didn’t get involved in the ‘forging’ until after the beef was already browned. I forgot to take a picture of the dish when we were finished making it, but the creation turned out a creamy, cheesy blend of noodles and beef.
We don’t watch a lot of commercials in our home as we DVR most everything and then zip through them – I never saw this on TV but did see it online and thought it was a great depiction of the brand!
Fast forward to at home – that big box of Kraft goodness (that will soon be coming up for a giveaway!!) that landed on my doorstep had a sample of the Zesty BBQ Chicken variety in it. I made it for dinner the other night and I thought it had a great taste to it. I actually added fully cooked breaded chicken breasts to the dinner kit which added yet another layer of texture.
What makes these products stand out from the competition in my opinion is the Velveeta Cheese Sauce.
As I was perusing the ingredient list on the box, I noticed that the sodium level in the kits is on the high side per serving (the Zesty BBQ Chicken variety has 28% of your daily intake). I do try and watch the sodium intake in our home, as my husband’s family has a history of heart problems.
That being said, it’s not as if I would serve this for dinner every night in my home, but I felt it worth mentioning. I think these dinner kits are convenient for the nights when you need a quick supper to get out the door to kids’ activities or meetings. Certainly it is no worse than picking up fast food for your family.
Besides the two kinds mentioned above Velveeta Cheesy Skillets also comes in a Chicken & Broccoli and a Nacho Supreme variety.
I was invited to participate in a behind-the-scenes blogger conference with the Kraft Kitchens, for which Kraft provided full travel expenses, meals and accommodations and product samples, coupons and premiums, however my opinions are completely my own and I have not been compensated to publish positive or negative reviews of the event or products associated with my experience.
These meals have become a staple around our house. The boys especially love the Cheeseburger one and the Nacho one. We haven't tried the chicken broccoli one but I'm sure it will be good too.
