“I love baking with my Mom (especially when I get to lick the bowl!).”
– Amber, age 14
In order to foster a love for being in the kitchen, parents need to spend quality time with their kids in it.
That can sometimes be challenging.
I for example, am one of those parents who feels it easier to just do it myself rather than let my kid help, because then I have to coach her and clean up after her. One day I sat up and noticed though, that my daughter, wouldn’t be able to fend for herself if I didn’t put my perfectionism aside and let her help.
4 mothers worked together and created Picture Me Cooking, a recipe book that parents and kids can use together. But it’s not just a recipe book, it’s also an heirloom that will chronicle the fun you have in your kitchen as a family.
Snapping photos of your children as they work through the recipes, will not only encourage them to want to cook and bake more, but when they grow up they can take the recipes and memories with them and use them with their own families. The book is set up in such a way that will really feel as if they are a chef when they embark on creating one of the dishes. Kitchen rules and math are laid out in a way to have them succeed.
This is a wonderful activity that you could plan to do once a week, giving each child a turn to choose a recipe and have the featured picture for it.
Or…you could have a book for each child!
The recipes are all kid friendly both to make and for eating, and there is a spot at the back of the book to include your own special family favorites. I think both of those things are great, because the real idea behind this book is to create memories with your children. The yummy food is just a bonus!
