Back in the 1970s you would have found my siblings and I playing a popular Hasbro game where ever we went. I don’t know how many plastic pegs we lost while playing Battleship, but I do know that you it was not a good idea to leave the red and blue cases filled with your subs and aircraft carriers in the back seat on a hot summer day…yeah we had some melting occur!

And I’m off to the races! I suspect that there will be a lot of mint in my diet the next few days! But I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea (pun intended!). If you prefer a fruity taste to your drink, I don’t doubt that you’ll love these Fruit-Tea Smoothies that feature Pure Leaf Iced Tea.

Wow, I can’t believe that I already leave for the Kentucky Derby tomorrow! There are a few things that are iconic to the Derby; The Hot Brown, a sandwich made at The Brown where we’ll be staying, the hats, and Mint Juleps of course!

Lately, I’ve been spending quite a bit of time doing some much-needed cleaning around our cluttered house. It’s given me a nice chance in particular to stop and look at the many family pictures we have around on the walls, and covering most of the tables strewn about the place. And in lieu of creating a renewed interest in all these photos, the spring cleaning was quite directly the impetus for a strange, yet driving realization I suddenly had: our family has forgotten how to randomly gift!

Even though my daughter is a teenager, I still really enjoy looking through children’s picture books. We still have a number of classic ones that sit on our bookshelf, that maybe one day I’ll read to our grandchildren. If you and your family like to cuddle up on the couch and read together, Because Your Mommy Loves You is a book that everyone is going to like.

Identity is a drama/sci-fi book written by Sandra Glover, set in the future in the United Kingdom. Three very different girls, are brought together by one of them, because there is something she knows that they others don’t. Unaware of the fact that they are all intricately tied together, a journey to find out just who they are ensues.

Scandinavian trends are all the rage, from IKEA to Scandinavian sweater prints set to hit stores this fall, to the success of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, we’re beginning to see this trend trickle from design, to fashion and even food. I’m all over all of those trends (especially IKEA, I’m an IKEA junkie!) But the one Swedish inspiration that I could love even more than IKEA (and trust me that’s a hard act to follow) is the tradition of ‘Fika’.
