This past month that I’ve spent following the Jenny Craig program for health and weight loss has been a real eye opener for me.
While I may have not been heavily overweight (I was creeping up to the top of my height/weight bracket though), I knew when I started that my eating habits were not healthy at all and that I had really stopped caring what a proper portion size looked like. I wanted all the food… with none of the weight consequences! But as the lady on the Geico commercial says “That’s not how this works, that’s not how any of this works!” What has made it worse is getting older, it’s not a myth that when you hit 40 your metabolism slows down and it’s harder path to get excess weight off.
So what have I thought of the Jenny Craig program in terms of fitting it into my lifestyle? Well I definitely like the convenience of healthy, delicious, portion controlled meals that are nutritionally balanced. It has given me a more realistic vision on how much I should really be eating at each sitting (in other words, I was putting waaay too much food on my plate prior to starting the program).
I am very impressed with the quality of the Jenny Craig food. It tastes great and there is a lot of variety. You don’t feel like you’re on a diet at all especially with the decadence of the desserts you still get to eat!

I’ve had a chance to try most of those items and they are really good! My favorite has got to be the Chocolate Lava Cake. I mean really; chocolate. lava. cake. Need I say more? Warm this treat up in the microwave for a few seconds and you’re in heaven. You’re also encouraged that “I Can Do This!”, because that’s how Jenny Craig is designed. You’re not depriving yourself, you’re learning eating habits and they’re helping you along the way. It’s silly to think that you’ll never eat another bite of cake again, or never eat out. So their goal is to teach you to make smart choices in what you buy at the grocery store, how much you put on your plate, and what you order from a menu.
So far I have lost 2.3 lbs, and have my final weigh in for the month this week. (Results not typical. Members following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs. per week. I received promotional consideration.) I gained a little after being on a press trip last week (.9 lbs), but honestly I know it could have been a lot worse had I not learned some eating tips from my local Jenny Craig consultant. The encouragement and leadership that one on one experience provides is priceless on a weight loss journey. It helped that there are some take along foods on the plan as well.
