Contact Lenses. What My Teen Thinks of Them.

I got my first pair of glasses when I was in 6th grade.  Back then there wasn’t much choice, glasses were less than fashionable, and no one in jr. high wore contact lenses.  When I graduated high school and considered myself an adult, one of the first things I did was visit my optometrist and get myself some contacts.  A lot has changed over the years.

My daughter is a sophomore in high school now.  She has been wearing glasses since 2nd grade.  Up until this point she hasn’t really ever expressed an interest in contact lenses, and has been content with her glasses.

But this year we have encountered a number of instances where she can see the advantages of having contact lenses over glasses.  Water and Amusement Parks, Vacations, Pictures, etc. have had her looking twice at getting some.

When Mom Central sent out the call for moms with tweens and teens to try out the new Bausch + Lomb Sofens, 1-Day Contact Lenses, we decided it was a perfect way to find out whether contact lenses would be a good fit for her.

Our process started with a consultation at the eye doctor where she received a pair of trial lenses and some hands on direction on how to put them in and take them out.  This was a far more arduous task than we had assumed it would be.  It took about 90 minutes for her to be “somewhat” comfortable with the process.  We were then sent home with a few days worth of lenses so that she could become accustomed to them.

Since both my husband and I have worn contact lenses for well over twenty years, we understood the difficulties she first had getting them inserted in her eyes.  But the Bausch + Lomb Soflens lenses are a lot less rigid than other contact lenses, even other 1-day ones.

Amber became very frustrated because the lens kept flipping on her fingertips before she was able to get them in her eyes, and then when it came time to remove them, she’d have trouble lifting them out as well.

After days of struggling though, she got the hang of it, and can now get them in and out with ease.

She really liked having them when she went with the Church youth group to an Amusement Park for the day, as she didn’t have to worry about her glasses getting broken or wet/dirty.   We received the 90 day supply that was sent to us as part of the Mom Central campaign, and brought them on our cruise vacation.

Amber was really glad she had them while we were whale watching, as up on the front deck of the boat, it was quite windy and lots of water was spraying everywhere.  She didn’t have to worry about her glasses getting all spotted and splattered, and could enjoy looking for the whale spouts without constantly cleaning her glasses!

Overall I think she will probably still be wearing her glasses more than her contacts at least on a daily basis, but for outings, sports and water activities, she is now appreciating the flexibility the Bausch + Lomb Soflens offers her.

“I wrote this review while participating in a Test Drive by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Bausch + Lomb and received Soflens daily disposables to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.”
