Engage Your Kids in Math this Holiday Season

The holidays are right around the corner, and with them come countless opportunities for parents to engage their children in math in festive and entertaining ways, says Laura Overdeck, mother of three and founder of the popular Bedtime Math national online community.
Below are three of Laura’s best winter holiday math tips.
1. Geometry and snowflakes. Making paper snowflakes is a favorite winter activity for kids of all ages. When your little ones are cutting out their
Alamo Then & Now: Family Travel from Years Gone By ~ Give Away
In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I LOVE to travel. It likely has to do with the fact that before I could even walk or talk, I was on the go. Being the child of immigrants, much of our family lived overseas, and that included my grandparents. Every few years, we’d make that jump across the ocean and spend holidays with them. In between those travels we’d squish in the car and head south to Florida or west to the Mountains. Before the days of compulsory seatbelt laws…you’d find us sprawled across the back seat, on the floor, between my parents (those old Buicks were HUGE, they didn’t call them ‘boats’ for nothing)….

A Review of “Belly Fat Diet For Dummies” Book
A number of weeks ago I received Belly Fat Diet for Dummies to review from the popular For Dummies book line up. Never one to think myself so educated that I can learn immediately from text book style verbiage – the For Dummies books are right up my alley. We have used For Dummies books in our homeschooling curriculum (currently my daughter and husband are working their way through Beginning Programming with Java For Dummies), and I love the way they are clearly written so that anyone can follow the game plan, whatever it may be, within their pages.
Virtual Piggy ~ A Safe Way for Kids to Shop Online

I have always been a frugal shopper. Getting the most bang for my buck has been something I’ve done for as long as I can remember. Growing up when given a dollar value for a gift expenditure, I’d carefully figure out all the ways I could get what I wanted and perhaps something ‘extra’ on the side.
It was with great joy that I found out when dating him, that my husband to be was a saver – not a spender. Since we also were both brought up with a giving mentality as well, we had financially aligned goals. And then we had a child…
KidSafe Smart Phone Cover
The KidSafe Smart Phone Cover is great for playtime. It enables your kids to use the touchscreen on your smart phone through a protective plastic coating.
Pretty much every mom or dad has succumbed to the pleading of their young one to allow them to play a game or watch a video on their iPhone or Android device. And as it keeps jr. quiet and occupied, well mom or dad usually gives in. I mean there is a whole industry keeping programmers busy making apps for children, so enough of us do it!
