11 years ago somehow I recognized that I was in a bad place health wise though many others would never have pointed it out to me, I knew that if I didn’t change something I was on the road to disease.  Diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol….  I did some soul searching and some research, and thought that Weight Watchers Online would be an ideal program for me to follow, and as I looked at the most precious people in the world to me, I was hoping that the program would work and I would be able to get healthier not just for me but for them as well.

The national non-profit organization Bedtime Math, whose mission is to make the nightly math problem as common as the bedtime story, announced today it will make its popular “Summer of Numbers” calendar available for free to parents across the country who want to help children avoid the so-called “summer slide”in math skills over the school vacation.

Education experts say school-age children can lose several months’ worth of math skills during extended school breaks, as their learning routine is interrupted and other activities replace homework

3 is an odd number (in case you didn’t know!).  Which means every time I cut something in half for my family to eat, it means I have one piece extra.  1/2 a grapefruit for breakfast, means 1/2 a grapefruit left over.  1/2 a cantaloupe to fill with ice cream, means 1/2 a cantaloupe left over.  1/2…well you get the picture.  So I was all over these new Good Cook Produce Keepers that I was sent to try out as part of being a Good Cook Kitchen Expert.

The great thing about these produce keepers is that they are the shape of the produce you’re trying to keep fresh.  We all know that sometimes plastic

I was bitten by the travel bug at a very young age.  With grandparents that lived in Germany, relatives in Western Canada and a father that worked for the railroad, it seemed our family was always on a plane, in a car or on a train traveling somewhere. 

Now as an adult world traveler myself, I have often pondered how my mom did it.  Packing, planning, budgeting and wrangling four children with no computer, smartphone or GPS to help her out.  I mean good golly they actually relied on paper and maps to get them to their destinations!

Entenmann’s, a Bimbo Bakeries USA company, and The Salvation Army get ready to tackle the 76th National Donut Day on Friday, June 7th, 2013.  One of Entenmann’s most recognized donut fans, Super Bowl Champion and New Jersey native Victor Cruz is helping spread the word about this delicious holiday.  The Salvation Army and Entenmann’s Bakery will celebrate National Donut Day through their continued partnership for a third consecutive year.

Fruttare.  Have you seen these frozen fruit bars in the cases of your grocer’s freezer section yet?  

I found them at Target, and picked up a couple of boxes with some coupons I was sent.  They come in two different kinds; Fruttare Fruit and Milk Bars (Strawberry & Milk, Coconut & Milk, Banana & Milk and Peach & Milk) and Fruttare Fruit and Juice Bars (Strawberry, Orange, Mango and Lime).  Ends up I purchased them just before some friends came over to visit for the afternoon, and the girls were happy enough to try them out and share their opinions of them.

According to researchers it is estimated that a significant amount of lifetime exposure to UV rays may occur by age 18 and that children’s annual dose of radiation may be up to three times that of adults.  One of the most important accessories children could have is appropriate eyewear when exposed to the sun.

Healthy eyes are important to me because all three of us in our family wear corrective lenses.
