When we got married and had our first home, the kitchen didn’t have a way to put a water filter line into it. We used a table top pitcher to filter our drinking water, and the one thing my husband always said that was if we ever moved into a new home, he’d make sure it was built so that we could get a refrigerator with a built in water filter. Five years later, he got that wish!
Since then we’ve moved once more, and since we sold our appliances with our other home, we purchased a new Whirlpool refrigerator; this one also has a water filter.
We had never in the past purchased bottled water to drink, but I know that if you currently drink bottled water and you need a new fridge, that buying one with a water filter will save you money in the long run. I also like the idea of using my own glasses, cups and reusable water bottles to fill instead of making waste.
Whirlpool’s water filters are certified by NSF International to reduce lead, sediments, chlorine-taste and odor that may be present in some, but not all, water supplies. Since there aren’t any regulations for the quality of bottled water…well you can see the advantage of knowing what isn’t in your water when using a Whirlpool water filter.
We use the water filter system mostly for drinking and cooking in our home, but I have heard of people using it for cleaning and even for sponge bathing their infants.
I also like the fact that the filter is very easy to install. My fridge alerts me when it needs changing and then it’s as easy as pulling the filter out at the bottom of the fridge and inserting the new one.
Then you just flush a gallon or two out, and you’re ready to use it!
Do you have a water filtration system in your fridge? If so what do you use the water for?
“I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Whirlpool and received product samples and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.”
Nice, I don't have a water filter on my fridge right now, but the next fridge I get I definitely want one, I can see how this would be much handier than having to refill a counter top pitcher all the time.
I was not aware of the benefits of a fridge with a built in water filter. Thanks for sharing.
