My dad has always been a hard worker, working at his 8 hour job, and then always working on the side for as long as I can remember. When he retired, he never “really” stopped working, it was always a side job here or a little job there.
But I never really realized how much my dad’s “jack of all trades abilities” and his constant help meant to my family until we moved away.
All of a sudden we had to look for someone to do all the things that we knew we could call Dad for. Or we had to learn ourselves! Still it is always nice when Dad and Mom come for a visit, because Dad likes to stay busy (still….) and then we find things for him to do, like install pantry shelves or help assemble new furniture.
Chicken Soup for the Soul has a book out for this Father’s Day entitled “Thanks Dad: 101 Stories of Gratitude, Love and Good Times“. Some of the stories will bring tears to your eyes (especially if you have a daughter), others a smile to your face, and still others will have you picking up the phone to give your dad a call.
Children and parents alike will enjoy this book, and if you have a dad in your life who likes to read encouraging stories, this would make a perfect Father’s Day gift.
I have three copies of Thanks Dad to giveaway.
