Reel Life Starring Us

In bookstores September 2011, Real Life Starring Us by Lisa Greenwald pairs up two very different girls on a school project and takes the reader on a fun ride as they learn to work together and encounter a celebrity all in the name of the school’s anniversary bash.

Chipped.  It’s something nobody at Rockwood Hills Middle School wants done to them, yet everyone – at least once – has had it done to them.  It’s when potato chips get smashed in the bottom of your book bag.  New girl in school Dina has already experienced it on her first day.

Chelsea the popular girl is going through here own emotional ups and downs, and her closely held secret is causing anxiety in her relationships.

The two girls have to complete a video project together, and ‘reel life’ (pun intended) is reflected in their project and despite Chelsea’s shallow circle of friends, she learns how to be a good friend in real life as she and Dina produce the film.

I think this is a great book for tweens and early teen girls.  It has enough drama and emotion in it to keep them interested.  It is a funny, touching and realistic take on how middle school girls face change and growing up.  Lisa Greenwald got this one right.

REEL LIFE STARRING US published by Amulet Books is available at book stores nationwide.

I received a copy of the book for review.
