This holiday season, two new pop culture cookbooks from Ulysses Press are sure to surprise the Harry Potter and Gossip Girl fans in your life!
Enter XOXO, A Cocktail Book ($19.95, 978-1646040421, Ulysses Press, September 2020) by Bridget Thoreson, a hard-cover recipe gift book featuring 100 of the world’s most classic and delicious cocktails (with 60 full-color photos) reimagined for Gossip Girl stans.
Gossip Girl and cocktails are inextricably linked. Booze was practically a main character on the show, rarely going two consecutive scenes without an appearance. XOXO, A Cocktail Book shares fruity tropical drinks for the most decadent of spring breaks, moody bourbon cocktails for sipping in dark corners of indulgent clubs, and classic martinis for nursing at home as you binge season after season, soaking up gin and glamour. This book celebrates all that Gossip Girl is through the lens of Manhattan’s favorite accessory—a glass.
I’m really excited to try “The Embezzler” (aka Strawberry Daiquiri) and “Take It Easy” (aka Tequila Sunrise). Sure the cocktails themselves are old favorites, but the blurbs and alternate names that go with them … seems to me they’ll taste way better than that normal cocktail item 😉 They truly are cocktails fit for Manhattan’s elite.
And while the XOXO, A Cocktail Book is obviously for the 21+ crowd, the next one is for up and coming chefs of all ages.
With The Unofficial Hogwarts for the Holidays Cookbook ($19.95, 978-1646040728, Ulysses Press, October 2020), you’ll stupefy your tastebuds with 75 magical recipes for every occasion, from tasty train snacks on your way to Hogwarts to full, Muggle-worthy holiday meals.
The cookbook is organized by season, then by holiday feast, and covers all of the important holidays celebrated during the school year as well as over summer break. With this book, you’ll enjoy Licorice Wands and Pumpkin Tarts as train ride snacks; make Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding for the start-of-term feast; treat yourself to Chocolate Fudge and Mince Pies on New Year’s; share Eggs and Bacon or Porridge for a spring classic castle breakfast; and imbibe Liquid Luck or a Cherry Soda Drink when you need to quench your thirst.
I think these pop culture cookbooks for a holiday gift would be a great gift for fans of these series.
