A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity along with a number of other fabulous bloggers to interview The Wanted about their involvement with the new Ice Age: Continental Drift movie that’s coming to theaters July 13th.
If you are unaware of this pop band, these guys are HUGE in the UK and even here in the U.S. they have made their mark, they’ve sold over 2 million copies of their track Glad You Came. Their single Chasing the Sun is the “title track” for Ice Age: Continental Drift.
The Wanted is made up of band members Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes.
There were five of us bloggers that got to ask questions of The Wanted, and we covered a lot, so I’m not going to be able to tell you everything we talked about, but will give you some highlights from the interview, and then later in the post you can catch their new music video for “Chasing the Sun” which features The Wanted on some floating ice along with your favorite Ice Age characters and clips from the movie!
About the film: In ICE AGE 4: CONTINENTAL DRIFT, Scrat’s nutty pursuit of the cursed acorn, which he’s been after since the dawn of time, has world-changing consequences – a continental cataclysm that triggers the greatest adventure of all for Manny, Diego and Sid. In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home.
One of my blogging friends Liz from a Nut in a Nutshell got to start the interview and right out of the chute she asked the question we probably all had on our list: What did the band members think makes Chasing the Sun such a good fit for the movie?
The Wanted members felt that the song is so full of energy and it fit a specific scene in the movie like a glove.
What scene is that? I don’t know either! I guess we’ll all have to go see the movie to find out!
I asked them if they got to see Ice Age: Continental Drift already, or if they had to wait until it’s released like the rest of us.
They were really excited that they got a sneak peek of Ice Age 4. And then I specifically asked The Wanted member Max if he cried during it at all, because apparently he’s a little sensitive especially when it comes to animals in movies…
He mentioned that he had a ‘bit of a tear’ when the family separates, but the film makes you smile more than cry…and he ‘cried’ with laughter at one point in the movie. Good to know right?!
The guys though it was really cool that they got to use a bit of blue screen and CGI effects for the first time when they made the Chasing the Sun video for Ice Age: Continental Drift. Check it out below.
What did you think of it? Much like Jay from the band said in the interview “I think our song, Chasing the Sun, sets the tone for the film very well.”
For myself personally I love the story of Scrat and his ‘elusive’ acorn across the Ice Age stories, and I asked the band what their elusive acorn is.
They all agreed that it would be getting a number one single in America…who knows maybe with the release of Ice Age 4 and their song reaching even more people because of it, they might just get their acorn after all!
I think Nathan summed up Ice Age: Continental Drift nicely in his response to one of the questions asked.
I really do love this film. It just shows how important family is. All of the characters, act like they are their own little family. And even when that family gets separated, it shows how much of a bond they still have and how much love they’ve all got for each other, which I think is the greatest message of all.
It was a pleasure to chat with the young men of The Wanted. They’re a bunch of great guys and I want to thank them very much for the time they took to talk with us and answer our questions.
And now I have a little something for y’all (<== That phrase they think sounds very welcoming, one of the guys commented that they loved my accent, it was great and when I said y’all it was adorable *blush*).
