Getting Ready for Back-to-School with Master Lock #LSSS

As a Master Lock Live Secure Safety Squad Ambassador, I have received compensation and products for my family to use in my home for our safety and security. Any opinions I share in posts related to the Live Security Squad and Master Lock are my own.

It’s hard to believe that this happened 13 years ago.

That was Amber’s first day of Kindergarten. I remember when we dropped her off, she was eager to start her day and while all the other parents mingled around crying 5 year olds, Amber emphatically told us “Okay, you can go now. I’ll see you when you pick me up.” I remember being both proud and a bit disheartened by that statement!

This past May she finished the first part of her education journey. It was a tough road sometimes, especially some days since 7th grade, which is when we decided to homeschool.

But this kid is going places. As a National Merit Scholar, as long as she keeps her grade point average up, she has her tuition, fees and meal plan paid for the next 4 years. In 3 weeks we’ll be dropping her off at her dorm room, reminiscent a bit of that Kindergarten morning so long ago. Except this time, she just might have a tear or two in her eye, and perhaps she just might beg us to stay just 5 minutes more ๐Ÿ™‚

Even though the bulk of her education is being funded by a scholarship, those incidentals add up. Like the laptop we just went out to get her.

When we were at her university orientation in June, we were told that theft is a problem in the student center, resident hall, and library…because students just leave things around and walk away, to get a drink, go to the bathroom, etc. When they come back they find their backpack, iPod or even their laptop gone.

This is why we’re sending Amber to university with a Master Lock SafeSpace Computer Lock for her new laptop.

This lock is easy to use. Simply depress the set button with a pencil/pen tip and put in your four digit code to set your own combination.

When your student is ready to use it, it’s as quick as wrapping the coil around a permanent object (a leg on a table or desk) and then thread the lock through the loop on the other side of the coil, place the lock in the laptop, scramble the combination, and their laptop is secure.

The Master Lock Live Secure Safety Squad members are having a blog party this month sharing all our back-to-school posts.  Head over to the other member’s blogs to see the Master Lock back-to-school products that they are suggesting for back to school!

  1. My kids both had those for college too. Kids always leave their dorm doors open and it only takes seconds for theft to happen!

  2. Her back pack was almost as big as she was. Luckily our first year of college wasn't to hard…or at least not for Megan.

  3. What a precious little 5 year old she was, and such a lovely young woman. She looks a lot like her momma! My children attend a very small, country school where they don't even lock their lockers. Next year, however, my daughter will begin high school and the school she will attend is huge! It's also located in downtown Portland, so safety and theft are concerns. I will definitely make sure she has suitable locks for her lockers and bike, if she ever rides one.

  4. We also have a lock like that for our laptop โ€“ my husband is always adamant about us using it when in public places. I find that protecting my child's things is more difficult since we homeschool. It's so rare that she's in a public class that she forgets everything ๐Ÿ˜›
