McDonald’s: A Real Part of Our Family’s Life

If you’re a regular reader of my blog then you already know that I like things fast, easy and affordable. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that our family often eats at McDonald’s.

McDonald’s has been a part of our family since the very beginning…well actually even before that. See, my husband’s very first job was at McDonald’s.

While some may think that’s not a big deal, McDonald’s was the place where he learned responsibility and a strong work ethic. He worked there all throughout high school. His job at McDonald’s helped him save money for university, and when he was ready to get a job in a field more aligned to his career plans, he had a long term job and references to put on his resumé.

Fast forward about 20 years and McDonald’s became a frequent outlet for me as a young mom to take our daughter to. Cold Canadian winters don’t allow for much time outdoors, but being cooped up all day for weeks can cause cabin fever for both mom and toddler! A meet up with friends, a Happy Meal and a Playland space, and everyone had a smile on their face when we were done.

So it was a natural choice that for our daughter’s third birthday we had her party at McDonald’s.

She’s 18 now and she still talks about that party and how much fun she and her friends and cousins had climbing all over Ronald McDonald!

Now we’re in a completely different stage in our lives, but McDonald’s still has a part in it.

My husband works from home two days out of his four-day work week and has a lot of conference calls. Having our computers in the same room means I can find it difficult to concentrate on the work I need to do for my blog.

With a McDonald’s right down the street from where we live, I’ll often head out there in the morning and grab myself some breakfast and then spend some time with their free Wi-Fi to get some work done.

But just because in our family we like things quick, simple and try to save money, doesn’t mean we want to sacrifice quality. Which is another reason why McDonald’s authentically fits into our lifestyle. They provide good food for less.

That espresso I sip while working on my blog, it’s 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified Espresso. Being a bit of a coffee addict, I’m all for a coffee house beverage that gives me change from a $5 bill!

  1. Oh man I remember going to birthday parties at McDonald's! Those were seriously my favorite. It's so funny how you used it to get out of the cold when I use it now to get out of the heat! {Oh and that's cool about the coffee- I drink my fair share of their coffee so good to know!}

  2. We have a McDonalds here that is open 24/7 so I feel like it has become my late night snack place. I love going with a friend to grab a hot fudge sundae at midnight! 🙂

  3. I love McDonald's I think it is a great place to eat, and we have shared many memories over the years there!

  4. I have to tell ya. I never really thought about how much I would miss their fries and double cheeseburger until we moved out to the country. Now the nearest "Mickey Ds" is almost 45 minutes away!! I almost look forward to my monthly doc visits so I can get some good fast food!

  5. That espresso looks so good and I always find their drive-thru so convenient on a busy morning. I'll have to try the espresso!
