We all know the demands placed on parents, and that being one is probably the toughest job in the world. You want to keep your children happy, but sometimes, when it comes to their diet, you have to stop and tell yourself “NO.” Good nutrition is so important for a growing child. Their younger years are a very crucial point in their development, and you don’t want to fill them with junk, but sometimes it’s just easy to give them something out of a plastic wrapper. However, if you want to give your child something tasty that they will enjoy while giving them the nutrition they need, here are a few healthy options for your kid:

Fruit Kabobs

It’s far too easy to just give your kid what they want, but if they think they’re getting a treat, when in actuality they’re getting something healthy, it’s really a win-win situation. The trick is to make healthy foods fun or engaging, and fruit kabobs do just that. To make a fruit kabob simply take several different kinds of fruit and place them on a skewer. Before giving your child a skewer, make sure the tips of the stick are dull so they don’t hurt themselves. This treat would be best for older children, not babies.

Sweet Potato Fries

Kids love fries with their burger or sandwich, but next time you give them their lunch, give them some sweet potato fries instead of regular fries. They’re far healthier than regular fries and they taste great. They have the little bit of sweetness with the same consistency as regular fries. This is a great alternative to the high saturated fats and cholesterol levels that are in the regular fries.

Frozen Fruits

This is the perfect treat for home or preschools  when it’s snack time. Kids love fruit, but if you give them the choice, they’ll usually pick candy or ice cream. Fruit is a far better choice, and you can make it just as enticing as ice cream simply by freezing it. Freezing fruits like strawberries, cantaloupe, or peaches, gives your kids the sweetness they crave. This snack also has very little prep time. All you have to do is wash the fruit off, disperse them amongst several fruit cups on a tray, and put them in the freezer for about a half an hour. Once it comes time for their afternoon snack, you can hand them out and the kids will love them. These are especially great during the summer months when it’s hot outside.

If you’re looking for an alternative to all of the sugary and fatty foods out there that our kids consume on a daily basis, try out these options. There are many healthy choices to pick from; it just takes a little planning. Planning healthy snacks doesn’t have to be difficult either as witnessed with all the super easy treats above. Try it out next time your kid asks you for something to munch on between meals.
