I posted about being some what of an insomniac on my blog before, but really realized I needed an intervention when most of my Facebook activity is when the majority of people are in bed and sleeping. Simply put, I needed a way to get myself to sleep at a reasonable hour and stay asleep too. Staying up until 2 or 3 in the morning and then sleeping until 9 becomes a vicious cycle that is really hard to break out of, and sometimes if I have to get up earlier for an appointment or other reason I crash and burn, nap and then it starts all over again.
Food for Sleep, is just foods combined via a science based recipe into something that naturally promotes healthy sleep, with no hang-over and no worries about the side effects that sometimes accompany other sleep aids.
I received samples of Food for Sleep for review.
Food for Sleep is available online at $24 for a six pack. That is more expensive than most over the counter sleep aids but because it’s just food (tart cherry juice & Whey Protein Peptide with L-Tryptophan) and not drug based, that would make me willing to pay more for it.
Food for Sleep should be taken about 1/2 hour before you plan on going to sleep. You drink the whole 2.5 oz bottle. Be prepared, it is fast-acting 🙂 About 15 minutes after I took it I started feeling really sleepy and had very heavy eyes.
And there I was after drinking the first bottle, waking up the next morning having crawled into bed 7 1/2 hours earlier, rested. I mean really rested. I can’t remember sleeping that well in years. I generally wake up a few times a night, turn around, or kick my husband because he’s snoring, or moving my pillow – but that night…nothing, just constant sleep. The best part; there was none of that foggy grogginess that often hits me the next morning when I take an otc sleep aid.
There is one downside to Food for Sleep in my opinion.. it doesn’t taste very good. I took a swig from the bottle and my first reaction was that it tasted like potent Flinstone vitamins in liquid form and that the texture was kind of ‘pulpy’ (for lack of a better word). So I put the lid back on and shook it up and decided that maybe it would be more palatable if I diluted it with water.
I poured it into a glass and noticed quite a bit of sludge left on the bottom (I’m assuming from the whey powder?).
So I put some water in the bottle (a few times) to rinse it all out and then tried drinking it mixed with about 6 oz of water added to it. It was still a no go. I had a lot of trouble getting it down. I have to tell you that makes me sad, because the product works.
With my box of Food for Sleep samples there was also included a booklet with Tips & Tricks for a Good Night’s Sleep guide.
This is a really handy because it helps you realize bad habits that are preventing you from getting a better night’s sleep, and learn how to alter your routine so that you can get a good night’s sleep naturally.
It also has a Sleep Diary in it, so you can follow your nightly routine and sleeping to see if there is a pattern that is keeping you up at night.
You can learn more about Food for Sleep on their website.
I'm sorry that you had trouble getting it down. I have trouble sleeping, too. But, usually some hot tea usually helps!
I am usually a great sleeper. I feel sorry for you restless souls. Maybe add some ice cream to the drink. Or wine.
I normally don't have any trouble sleeping, but something like this would be helpful for those sleepless nights.
Maybe you could try it in a smoothie or something to help mask the taste. If it works for you I would try to find some way to drink it.
It all sounds great, except the taste and the sludge, lol.
I'm glad there's now an option for you when you so need it!
I'm there with ya…I don't sleep! I'm constantly trying new things…the latest made me foggy and dizzy the next morning. I think even though this tastes funky…I might still try it…I'm desperate!
My husband needs this! I'd tell him to just plug his nose 🙂
This sounds like a great sleep aid. I wish it was less expensive, though.
I use Melatonin. It is a natural sleep aid that your body already makes. Just take apill before bedtime and you sleep SO good!
Tammy, thanks for the very thorough review, and we loved the pictures! We're glad it worked so quickly and so well for you. The sediment at the bottom is actually from the tart cherry juice – think of it as pulp.
Food for Sleep keeps the flavor of the tart cherries because we avoided adding extra sugar and calories. (We hope it was the right trade-off.) Do you think people might become accustomed to the flavor the way they do with other new beverages? Can we get away with saying, “This is what a good night’s sleep tastes like.”? 🙂
Sleep well!
Thankfully I fall asleep and stay asleep each and every night with ease. That is the one positive side effect to a non-stop life. I commend you for your honest review!
