Bound For Barcelona – Madeira

Madeira, Portugal is located on a string of islands in the North Atlantic between Portugal and Africa.  It’s known for its festive celebrations and we were fortunate enough to be there on the last day of their annual Flower Festival.

There are reserves and gardens all over the city of Funchal, a couple of which we walked through.

We did not go on an excursion with the cruise line in Madeira, we decided to just walk from the port into the city and poke around by ourselves.

We enjoyed looking at all the flower displays that they had around the city.

The architecture of the buildings in Europe is always extraordinary to look at. This is the Bank of Portugal building.

We took a cable car up to the top.

Almost to the top….

You could take a wooden toboggan ride halfway down instead of the cable car, looked like fun but we had already bought return tickets down.

A last look as we sail away.

Super busy day today, after dinner we hit the show in the Walt Disney Theater which happened to be a movie night. We got to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D.

Today was also the day that we joined Goofy and his Pirate friends for the Pirates in the Caribbean Party. I’m thinking no one bothered to tell Goofy that we weren’t in the Caribbean any longer, but heh a Pirate Party is always fun to be at. It was pretty chilly that evening but not cold enough to keep us from the fireworks show. Disney is the only cruise line that has fireworks at sea.
