How do you celebrate the 4th of July? Do you get together with friends and family and have a big BBQ or picnic? Herd the family to the best location in town to watch fireworks? Hang out around a fire pit and make s’mores?
Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays. I love all the hoopla that surrounds it, and we’ve always had the blessing of being able to spend time with close friends to celebrate this great country.
This year we’re celebrating with a grill out and CK Mondavi and Family wines. We’ve got our red, white and blue game on with their Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Merlot. (I know the cap and label on the Merlot are purple and the wine is red, work with my creative licensing here folks!!).
CK Mondavi and Family wines are the perfect complement to your 4th of July celebrations because they are the first and only wines to be 100% “Made in USA Certified®” something the family is committed to and proud of. In fact, CK Mondavi and Family sources only California grown fruit and a large portion of the grapes in CK Mondavi wines are estate grown on the family’s 1,850 acres of vineyards. And at only $6.99 msrp for a 750 ml bottle, that leaves $$ in your pocket for more Independence Day fun! It was the dream of Cesare and Rosa Mondavi to offer wine to your family at a low price, and now the 4th generation of Mondavis are involved in the winery winemaking.
I really like red wine and both the CK Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon and the Merlot are fantastic and are just as the labels describe them, “Rich & Velvety” and “Silky & Smooth”.
Speaking of the labels, do you notice something different about them?! CK Mondavi and Family has a cool new label design, these started hitting stores in June, so you’ve likely see them at your favorite retailer already and if not, very soon! The redesign includes a new brand identity and new packaging that give a nod to the Mondavi family heritage and tradition (that’s Cesare’s portrait on the label), while also bringing a new modern hand-crafted style to the label.
Independence Day is the celebration of a new nation – I think that’s why this holiday is so special to me. Some of you may not know that my family immigrated to America, we moved here in 1999. It was a new country and a new start for our lives! We became citizens in 2010. So when I think of this country, I truly think of a land of opportunity, where those that forged a new path for the future back in 1776 were ultimately forging a path for those born here and those of us who chose the United States as our country!
When I was planning a burger recipe for our 4th of July grill out, I decided to take one of my favorite sandwiches with roots from another country, and fuse it into a burger. I feel that one of the reasons the USA is so great is because we are a melting pot of cultures. I love myself a good Cuban Sandwich, a ham and cheese sandwich that became popular in Florida because of the Cuban influence. A similar sandwich is the Medianoche (“midnight”) sandwich; as the name suggests, the sandwich originated as a late-night snack. The Medianoche is served on sweet bread rather than Cuban bread though. Either way the sandwich is delicious and my take on it is meshed with a Turkey Burger for a grill out.
- 20 oz ground turkey
- 1 egg, beaten
- ¼ cup bread crumbs
- 4 burger sized sweet rolls
- yellow mustard
- pickle slices
- 1 package ham, deli sliced
- 8 slices Swiss Cheese
- Combine ground turkey, egg and bread crumbs in a bowl. Split into 4 equal portions.
- Place on grill and cook to desired temperature. 160 degrees for completely cooked burgers.
- Toast sweet rolls and spread with yellow mustard
- Add pickle slices, ham and Swiss cheese
- Top with cooked burger
CK Mondavi and Family’s Chardonnay, which is Bright & Fresh, pairs perfectly with this burger!
Their Chardonnay is a medium-bodied wine with a hint of oak. Aromas of lemon and citrus combined with the flavors of apples and pears lead to a crisp finish.
Just in time for all your summer grilling, CK Mondavi is doing summer in-store promotions for burgers, buns, cheese and charcoal. Look for in-store promotions wherever you can find CK Mondavi and Family wines.

I love the sweet rolls on burgers and the Turkey Cubano burgers is a recipe that I am going to make. These burgers look delicious, and the wine looks yummy!
The ground turkey, eggs, and meat mixed together reminds me of a meatloaf. That may be something worth trying with hamburgers.
