Why on Earth Would you go to Canada?

You might have heard of Jim Carrey, Alanis Morrisette, Seth Rogen, Pamela Anderson, Celine Dion, Drake, or Kiefer Sutherland. Maybe you’re more familiar with Chandler from Friends, Christina from Grey’s Anatomy, or Neo from Matrix. What do all these people have in common? They were born in Canada. Still need a reason to visit? Here are a few more.

To soothe your inner foodie

We’ve all heard about the wonder of Canadian maple syrup, but you haven’t lived until you’ve tried an authentic Canadian pancake dripping in edible gold. Canada also has a rich palate because of its cross-cultural society. Their local Poutine is a dish so quintessential that it’s served at McDonalds. It’s a meal of gravy-covered cheese curds and chips. And yes, it’s a million times more epic than cheesy fries. Your taste buds will thank you for it.

To meet a real life Mountie

There’s something about men in red uniforms, especially if the uniforms include funny black hats. Beefeaters and Mounties have both, and tourists around the world are just itching to meet them. Beefeaters (in the UK) are known for their frozen posture and immutable facial expressions, but mounties have horses, so it’s pretty clear who wins the battle of the best. Plus, mounties will actually talk back, so and go say hi.

To see if they’re as friendly as they seem

It is said that Canadians are the most polite people in the world. If you’re in doubt, just look at any Twitter ‘beef’ between Canadians. It’s surreally civil. Still, if you’re visiting a strange land, it helps if the people are nice to you, especially if you’re lost and you need directions. They also have a rich architectural history from the Montreal Steps to the architectural museum. Find a friendly face, make a new friend, and go see some pretty buildings.

To bump into the Ryans or the Justins

Justin Bieber doesn’t spend much time in Canada these days, and Prime Minister Trudeau has a pretty busy itinerary (and a polite but lethal security team), so you’re probably not going to meet either of them while you’re visiting. It’s equally unlikely you’ll spot Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Gosling, or the guy who plays Jack Bauer. Still, you might get a chance to eat at their favorite restaurants, or hang out at places that are important to them. It could happen…

To take the ultimate road trip

Canada has gorgeous landscapes, so the roadside views will take your breath away, and it’s a great chance to see fun things and experience the French and English sides of the country.

Whether you’re a Belieber or a True-deau (and though you’re unlikely to meet either one), Canada is an amazing travel destination, so head on over and enjoy, eh!

  1. Well this was very informative! I’ve never been to Canada before, seems like it would make a great place to vacation 🙂

  2. I have been to Canada couple of times when I was a small boy but didn’t have the chance to visit again, I will definitely give it a go this year though. Anyhoo have you heard of this comedian by the name of Russel Peters who happens to be a total Canadian but Indian at heart?
