My daughter has long hair and I know she doesn’t purposefully stuff her hair down the sink drain in the bathroom, but still I’m sure some gets in there as she does her daily routine. I’ve tried to stay away from strong chemicals because of some issues we had using them in our last home, so have been using the natural vinegar and baking soda method to keep our drains clear in this home. Unfortunately, her sink has still been draining slowly the last couple of times I’ve used it. Since her bathroom is also our ‘guest’ bathroom, I knew I had to get something stronger to unclog the sink drain.
A recent survey showed nearly half of respondents hosting guest this holiday season will be stressed when guest arrive.
Additionally, 59% of respondents find clogged drains “gross” and water pooling in the shower is one of the most embarrassing things a guest could see in the home. To help alleviate some of this stress, hosts can be prepared with a drain cleaner like Drano Snake Plus as an insurance policy, at a time when plumbing systems across the country will be tested to their limit.
I was sent a Drano Snake Plus kit and so I quickly put it to work in my daughter’s bathroom sink. Usually I have my husband do things like this around the house, but this seemed simple enough so I just did it on my own.
First you insert the “snake” tool in the drain to loosen the clog. You might be amazed at what you pull up out of your drain. While I knew I’d find a lot of hair at the end of that snake, I also found that when the workers in our home were building it they had apparently “flushed” stuff down the sink. And to think that had all been sitting in there for 5 1/2 years. Ewwww. I didn’t take any pictures because trust me, they weren’t pretty.
Then you just pour the whole bottle of Drano down the drain and let it work for 30 minutes. Once the 30 minutes is up flush it out with hot water and your drain should be working right once again. You will notice the scent is quite strong, so if you’re sensitive to strong smells especially chemical ones, make sure the area is well ventilated while you’re using the Drano.
I thought it worked great, the drain in the sink is no longer getting backed up. I’m planning on getting another kit to use in my bathroom. The Drano Snake Plus comes with a money-back guarantee, that’s how sure they are that it will work on your clog the first time. I also was happy to read that it won’t harm your pipes or fixures. That’s part of the reason I didn’t want to use a commercial drain cleaner in my home, because the one I had used before corroded our drain plug!
