Switched-On Schoolhouse Series: Meeting Your Children’s Learning Needs

I write the Switched-On Schoolhouse Series twice a month to share our family’s experience using this software based curriculum in our home.

The beauty of homeschooling is that we can meet our children’s learning needs in a way that makes them look forward to school, not dread it.

English/Language Arts is a subject that has been hit or miss for Amber through the years.  We’ve had some curriculum she’s loved and others that she has struggled with.  We’ve gone through several curriculums during the past few years, which can get expensive.

Until we received our Switched-On Schoolhouse to review, I was running out of options.

Amber loves the computer, and because it’s served up in a format that she enjoys, getting her to do her American Literature is no chore.  She loves it and finds the material engaging.  As I monitor her grades from the teacher account (currently she’s doing unit on Colonial Authors), I see that she is retaining the information well, and that’s the whole point of learning!

When we were using other curriculum, she found it difficult to know what information was pertinent to remember, or found the questions vague, and wasn’t quite sure how to answer them. 

Now she is enjoying learning about the history of American authors and is excelling at it as well.
