We have great enthusiasm for superhero movies around our home, so we’re excited about the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on May 2nd.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2™, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

This movie is going to be released just before we get the chance to attend the Dallas Comic Con FanExpo mid-May.  We’re hoping to see lots of related merchandise and cosplay folks surrounding it there!

Being home educators we take every opportunity to turn everything into a learning experience (hey, I know those of you that send your kids to a school building for school do the same!).  And so I’m really glad that there’s a Biblical Family Discussion Guide available for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as well.

The discussion guide for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a great resource for families to discuss a range of important themes that include the relationship between personal choices and destiny, living a life that counts, sacrificing yourself in service to others, and the nature of power. This guide will help parents start (or continue) conversations with their children that will inspire them to think outside themselves and challenge them to live lives that matter. The conversations that will result from using this guide will reveal that even the most explosive summer blockbuster can leave lasting, positive impacts on its young viewers.

The discussion guide is 5 pages, and is full of great content to talk about with your kids.

For families that would like to tie Biblical values into the movie, the guide has six Bible passages.  It’s formatted in such a way that the Bible verses are presented, then the movie scene that pertains to it and then there are some questions that you can ask to start a discussion and get your children pondering about how they can use those scenarios and apply them to their own lives.

I’m planning on using the guide after we’ve seen the movie as a family, and I’m sure the questions will be just as thought provoking for me as they will be for our teenager.
