Okay I know it may seem strange after just getting myself a bread machine that I’m writing a post on behalf of Pillsbury for their popular Simply… line.
But here’s the deal, I don’t always plan my meals out in advance (crazy, huh? I know!). Pillsbury Simply…Biscuits & Bread are the perfect solution for us moms, who have busy days, and still want to serve something with home-baked taste, even when they are only thinking about dinner about 30 minutes before they need to get it on the table!
Simply…Biscuits & Bread are made with wholesome ingredients, including flour, buttermilk and sugar. They also contain zero grams of trans fat, and for those of you who are concerned about HFCS, they don’t include that or artificial colors or flavors either.
But for all they don’t have in them, they do have great taste!
I made a couple of meals starring Simply…Biscuits & Bread that I tweaked a bit from the Pillsbury website, check them out.
Quick Beef Stew in Bread Bowls
As simple as the bread that it’s made from, this is a quick but impressive meal.
I cut the dough in three parts (if you want to make large bowls, I suggest cutting it in half, or even using one can of dough per bowl), and shaped them into balls, and then baked them for 20 minutes.
Then I cut the tops off of them, pressed down the centers, to make bowls.
I had a frozen pot roast dinner that I heated up, and spooned into the bread bowls. Delicious!
Smothered Chicken over Biscuits
Well the original recipe on the Pillsbury website has this recipe being made in a slow cooker. I had full intentions of doing that, but you know, that takes planning…and by the time I remembered I had taken chicken out to put in the crockpot, yeah, it was a half hour until dinner! So I improvised.
I cut up about 1 1/2 pounds of chicken breast tenders into smaller pieces, and cooked them in two tablespoons of margarine in the frying pan so they were browned on all sides.
I then added one can of chicken gravy, and one can of cream of chicken soup to the chicken, and let it simmer.
Then I put the biscuits in the oven for 15 minutes.
Threw some corn in the microwave, and voila in 30 minutes, we had a great meal of smothered chicken over biscuits!
Our family really enjoyed Pillsbury Simply…Buttermilk Biscuits and Rustic French Bread.
