We love pizza around here, but don’t always have the time or the inclination to go out for it or wait to have it delivered. So frozen pizza is usually what we eat when we do have it. There’s a small problem in our home though, and that would be our freezer. Yes, our freezer is small. That precludes us from having a number of varieties of pizzas in there, and that usually makes one of us ornery, since we all like different types.
Frozen pizzas generally have a stigma attached to them; they don’t taste the same as fresh pizzeria pizza, and so people compare them to cardboard with sauce.
Red Baron Pizza By The Slice challenges that stereo type though.
The fire baked crust is chewy (my teenager who never eats pizza crust ate it all!), and the two slices that come in the box are satisfying. I tried the Supreme while Amber had the Pepperoni. The veggies on the Supreme were yummy, the sauce had just the right amount of seasoning and there was plenty of cheese (usually that’s my biggest gripe about frozen pizzas is that there isn’t enough cheese!).
It’s the convenience of Pizza By The Slice that makes it a product of choice though, because this tasty pizza is made in the microwave! Made in the special crisping trays included in the package, the pizza slices come out of the microwave, as if it were just made.
The price of one box of Pizza By The Slice at our local Walmart was $3.00. For two slices of pizza that’s a little on the expensive side, since you can purchase a 12″ Red Baron Classic Pizza for under $3.00. So you are definitely paying for the convenience. That being said, I’ll likely have one box on hand in our freezer at any given time in case Amber needs to grab a quick dinner on her own. I’m still uncomfortable letting her use the oven if we’re not around.
Red Baron Pizza By The Slice comes in Supreme, Pepperoni, Meat Trio and Four Cheese. Our Walmart was out of the Four Cheese when I purchased it, which didn’t leave us with many choices. It would be nice if there were a few more flavor options. Personally I would like to see a Hawaiian one!
