Nab-It! Giveaway

Scrabble is a favorite family game for many, and now Hasbro has come out with a twist on that classic game called NAB-IT!.  The object of the game is to link the double-sided tiles to create words by stacking tiles.  Steal words from other players, by having the top tiles. As the stacks get higher, control keeps shifting form one opponent to the next.

The game can be played with 2-4 players.  Each player gets a bag filled with 25 two-sided letter tiles in a select color, along with a gray “bank” tile.  Form words by linking the tiles together.  When you ‘nab’ someone else’s word, you get to pull a tile out of your bag and “bank” it for points.  Play continues until all the tiles have been used.  Point scoring is figured out, by the tile that is the highest on the stack in each word.  If your colored tile is the one on top, you get a point!  Add those points to what’s on your “bank” tile, and whomever has the most wins.

The game is recommended for ages 8+, but I think a child that young might have trouble with all the rules involved (there are quite a few of them).  Also unless they’re playing with peers, their vocabulary might hinder their game play.  While it’s possible for them to play, I think it’s most appropriate for ages 11 or 12 and up.  Although it’s a good way to have fun and practice word building and spelling skills at the same time!
