Learn About Science While Having a Spa Day

Earlier this week Team Mom sent us a Scientific Explorer Kit.  Scientific Explorer has a number of Spa Kits that allow girls to make a beauty item while they learn about chemistry, physiology and physics.  The kit we received to review was the Bath Fizzer Kit.

A spa kit doesn’t always have to be “girlie” either, so if your daughter is a tomboy, she still may enjoy it because you can get a little messy while making the items.

The Bath Fizzer Kit was fun to use.  The science facts in the enclosed booklet (which also includes your instructions) are interesting and helpful.  The instructions are easy to follow, but not comprehensive.

We got as far as adding the 10 drops of water to our ‘blue base & citric acid’ mixture.

However, it just wasn’t giving us the consistency to put it into the mold.

So then we just added more water, which I’m sure if you have any science background, you know gave us instant bath fizzer all over our table, when we put the mixture in the molds .  So we tried again a second time, with the same results of the 10 drops of water just not working.  This time though we were smart enough to add just a few drops of water at a time.  I’m still not sure we got it right, but at least we could fill and press the mixture into the molds.

We let the bath fizzers harden over night and this was the result.

Two of them came out fine, and two well….not so much, lol!  I think had we been able to get the consistency of the mixture correct, it would have been a fantastic way to make up small party favors or thank you gifts.

Despite that we had a couple that didn’t turn out, it was fun to get our hands ‘dirty’ and learn some cool science facts.  We’ve also used the Magnificent Manicure Kit before which was pretty neat too.
