Feel the Force: See The Last Jedi at the Omni Theater, an IMAX® Dome

Fort Worth Museum of Science and History invited me and a guest as media to view Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi at the Omni Theater facility.  No compensation was received.

After what feels like an eon of waiting we finally got to see Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi on Friday evening.  But not just on any screen.  Not even on a big IMAX® screen.  We got to see it on a screen that’s been consistently ranked as one of the best screens to watch movies that feature IMAX® footage – on the Omni Theater IMAX Dome at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.

I’m not going to talk about the movie itself, because I know a lot of you won’t get to see it until Christmas week or later (we’re going to watch it a few more times on our upcoming Disney Cruise I’m sure!) – but I do want to tell you about the experience we had watching this episode on the Omni IMAX® Dome screen.

As you can imagine Disney held nothing back when filming this movie and it looks astoundingly good at the Omni Theater.  The domed screen is eight-stories tall and 120-feet across and its 70mm film projection provides images at almost ten times the resolution of standard projection formats!

Of course a movie like this isn’t just visual it’s an auditory experience as well.  So along with the fantastic visual images, you get powerful, laser-aligned digital sound and customized theater geometry to create the world’s most captivating film experience.

Speakers are strategically placed behind the perforated screen to provide you with an intense audio soundtrack to the film. This isn’t the best image, as I was attempting to capture it during the ‘Dome Tour,’ but it gives you an idea of the powerful sound that supports the movie.

Our family, we’re BIG Star Wars fans, I can’t count the number of times we’ve watched and rewatched all the different episodes, but seeing The Last Jedi at the Omni Theater… Watching this was unlike any other Star Wars movie viewing I’ve ever had, the movie exceeded my expectations in all the ways I had hoped.  The visuals were stunning and I’m so glad that I got to see my first viewing of it on such an incredible screen.

You are definitely at the forefront of the amazing action when seeing The Last Jedi at the Omni Theater.  If you are within driving distance of Fort Worth I think it’s worth a screening there 🙂

  1. I definitely want to see it at this theater now. I appreciate you sharing about it, I didn’t know they showed ‘real’ movies at the Omni Dome.

  2. That sounds like an awesome experience. I have been to a few fancy theaters before, and it is so much better than a regular movie theater!
