Tuesdays after release day are generally the days we go to the movie theater to see new movies. Between my husband being off work Tuesday to Thursday since he works weekends and homeschooling, it allows us to take advantage of matinée pricing and empty theaters!
Today we hit the theaters to see Iron Man 3. I’ve heard mixed reviews from those that have already seen it, but we liked it. As the third movie in the series I was wondering if it would live up to its two predecessors, and I think it did.
Iron Man 3 picks up where The Avengers left off. Tony Stark is finding it difficult to readjust to what he encountered in New York with the aliens and the wormhole and all that chaos…so he tinkers to distract himself from it. Building better and more technological suits to ‘be’ Iron Man in.
In Iron Man 3 we meet some of Tony’s past acquaintances, his trusty friends including Colonel Rhodes (whose War Machine has gotten a paint job and a name change), and along the way he makes a new friend in a pint size kid who not only helps Tony out, but gives him a new watch too.
The movie focuses on Tony trying to eradicate “The Mandarin”, an international terrorist, who is setting off bombs and disparaging the American way of life. But to take him down, Tony needs to find him. There is more to The Mandarin and his bombs than meets the eye though, and between that and Tony’s newest prototype suite, it puts him in a tight spot when trying to exact his revenge.
Naturally when you see movies as much as we do, you can predict how most of the storyline is going to play out, and so it was with Iron Man 3 for most of the script – however, there were still a couple of points in the movie where a plot twist caught me off guard and that definitely made it more entertaining.
My favorite part was actually right at the beginning when Tony ‘suits up’ with his newest Iron Man suit to a somewhat unique choice in music. It had me laughing quite a bit. And for all of Tony Stark’s aloofness and sarcasm, you see his compassion at the end when he ‘thanks’ his young mechanic helper Harley for what he did.
If you’ve watched enough of these Marvel comic hero movies already, you’ll know you’ll need to stay through the end of the credits before you go to drop your empty popcorn box in the trash and leave the theater, because you never know who may show up to keep the intersecting storyline of The Avengers team going.
Speaking of “suiting up,” CafePress has some great Iron Man 3 Merchandise. They’re going to be sending me a gift card to thank me for sharing about Iron Man, and my daughter has already laid claim to ordering Armor Up or Stark Industries Iron Man tee shirts. If I were her I’d get one of the Iron Man hoodies, since I’m always cold.
One lucky reader is going to win a $25 Gift Certificate to CafePress!
