When I saw this personalized doormat on Zulily a while ago, I knew I wanted to use it as inspiration as a craft piece somehow.I recently got some canvas panels to review and thought one of them would be the perfect medium to make a personalized welcome sign for our entry way using the doormat idea. I wanted to share my craft with you all because I think this would make a great gift, and homemade gifts for the holidays need to be started … well now! (Because you know we get so busy and before you know it, it will be November!) You could even use this as a cute gift for a child to present to a teacher by changing the surname to “our classroom” or “Ms. So and So’s Class”, etc.
As a lot of my crafts do, this uses a die cut machine. I personally own a Silhouette Cameo, but a Cricut would work just fine too. I know not everyone has one of these machines, but if you like the crafts I do with them…why not get one?! 🙂 That being said, stencils with paint, or stickers work also if you can find words and alphabet typography that appeal to you.
I started with an 8×10 Canvas Panel. This is different than canvas on a frame. It is canvas wrapped around a board and so it is flat on both sides. It’s really nice to work with. Then I painted it with two coats of black pearl acrylic paint, using a soft napped roller. After it was dry I coated it with Matte Modge Podge. Using a bronze shade of vinyl, I cut the ‘hello’ and ‘welcome to the litkes’ using my Silhouette machine and then transferred it to the canvas with transfer paper.Altogether this project costs less than $5 (assuming you already have a Silhouette or Cricut that is!).
I cannot wait to get started on my next craft project using the canvas panels.
Fancy.
I love it and have been looking for something to go over our Fireplace and this would be perfect. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks for the sharing how to do this. I’ve looking at doing something like that myself.
I just love your craft posts, please keep sharing them!
I just love this! I’m going to take some time out this week to make one for my home.
This looks great.. I would love to do something like this. Thanks for the ideas.
That was a great idea to use the concept for your own craft – I love it, it is so cute!
