If you’re anything like me, your clothing collection can get really boring really quickly. I always find myself reaching for the same items time and time again, just for those specific few favorites to soon become worn and washed out, and ready for the bin after a few months of wear.
After a recent clear out, I discovered my wardrobe was actually full of hidden treasures I could have been wearing over the years, mixing it up with my trusty favorites to breathe new life into my style. In the majority the money I have spent on new clothes to refresh my wardrobe season upon season was by and large, a waste!
There are always multiple ways you can style a garment. Whatever it may be, chances are it can be dressed up with heels, layered in the winter or worn with bare legs in the summer. Not only that, but rediscovering items that were once loved and long forgotten about can be really rewarding and save not only money, but precious wardrobe space too!
Don’t make the same mistake as me, and check out these useful tips that I found really helped me to make the most of my already existent clothing collection.
- Organize Your Space
The easiest way to make the most of what you already have is to be able to see it clearly on a daily basis. I discovered countless summer pieces that I had long forgotten about wedged in between gigantic winter coats hanging in the wardrobe.
If you pair like-sized garments together then this can really help, as nothing will be hidden. As well as this, investing in a collection of hangers that are all the same level and shape can also help to ensure that all your clothes are arranged in a straight line, and everything will be in sight.
Arrange your shoes where you can see them, too. You’re more likely to wear a pair of shoes you may not normally choose if they are in your eye line. Don’t wear down a couple of pairs of favorite shoes, when there are plenty of perfectly suitable others hidden in the back of your closet.
If you wear jeans and a t-shirt on a daily basis (like me) then try and change it up a little from time to time, to get your wear out of some other clothes that may not get as much attention.
Try wearing that dressy blouse (like the ones you can buy here) that you save for meals out with your husband on a day where you’re not doing anything particularly special. Or, throw on a maxi dress that you usually save for a summer vacation with a chunky knit cardigan and some heeled ankle boots to take a warm weather style into the winter months.
Not only will this give you countless new ways to wear what you already have, but wearing something you may usually save for a special occasion on a dressed down day will give you a little lift and make you feel good.
- Be Creative
Okay, so you love your jeans, who doesn’t!? Revamp them a little in the summer by turning up the bottoms to make them three-quarter and pair with some bright strappy sandals. Or breathe some life into your trusty tees by tying them in a knot at the waist for an instant crop top that will look super cute with a skater skirt or high waisted pants.
Think of some new ways to style what you already have, and if in doubt Pinterest is a great tool for style inspiration. Then after you get inspired you can check out some online stores and save some money; Penningtons promo code, to purchase some new pieces.
If you have some basic sewing skills, you could even search Pinterest for some simple DIY ways to alter your clothes to make entirely new styles altogether!
- Try Things On!
There is no better way to find what flatters you than playing a quick game of dress up from your closet.
Add accessories, layer garments and experiment with color. If you’re not sure about an outfit, ask someone in the house what they think! There’s no harm in trying from the comfort of your own home.
I just need to get out and buy some new clothes. Did you see all those jeans in that photo? I need more!
I like that you can mix and match tops and bottoms to keep looking like the latest trends. Makes me feel pretty and doesn’t cost a lot when you try using other seasons clothing to add to your wardrobe.
My sister and I trade clothes every year, so that way we get the most out of our wardrobes, kind of a two for one!
