Free to Breathe Races to Double Lung Cancer Survival

This year, the theme is “Heroes,” highlighting that person is a hero when they help fight cancer, no matter how they participate or how they have been affected. Each participant who raises donations will receive a cape to wear on race day, proudly showcasing their will to fight lung cancer.

Since 2005, Free to Breathe events have raised more than $14 million for research and educational programs. This year, the organization will be funding two new lung cancer research grants totaling over $1.2 million dollars. All proceeds from the event directly support Free to Breathe’s fight against lung cancer.

In Texas alone, an estimated 14,620 residents will be diagnosed with lung cancer in 2016. Last year, community members, teams, and companies across the region supported the Dallas/Fort Worth Free to Breathe 5k Run/Walk by raising $252,000. Event chairs hope to surpass that total this year.

You can become a lung cancer hero! Fundraise and register to walk or run with hundreds of community members as they gather at the Dallas Free to Breathe Run/Walk on May 15 The inspirational day will include a 5k run and walk and a 1-mile walk along with a rally, food and live music and fun for the whole family.

This is a cause near and dear to my heart since my mom is currently battling metastasized cancer in her lungs for the last year.

All proceeds from the event support Free to Breathe, a nonprofit lung cancer research and advocacy organization dedicated to ensuring surviving lung cancer is the expectation, not the exception.
