Disney’s Beauty and the Beast smash hit Broadway musical is currently playing at The Winspear Opera House in Dallas.  Based on the animated film, Beauty and the Beast focuses on the relationship between the Beast (Sam Hartley), a prince who is magically transformed into a monster as punishment for his arrogance, and Belle (Brooke Quintana), a beautiful young woman whom he imprisons in his castle. To become a prince again, Beast must win her love in return otherwise he remains a monster forever. The cast also features Gaston (Christiaan Smith-Kotlarek), Lumiere (Ryan N. Phillips), Cogsworth (Samuel Shurtleff) and Mrs. Potts (Stephanie Gray).

Beauty and the Beast became Disney’s first animated film to be adapted into a Broadway musical and it has been adapted into a Broadway show beautifully.  Lyricist Howard Ashman & Tim Rice and composer Alan Menken wrote the show’s songs.  With a fun additional song, “Human Again”, that was not included in the original animated feature.

Quintana has a beautiful voice and does the role proud in her performance.  Hartley performs the role of the Beast in a big way, with enough warmth to make you fall in love with the raging Beast just like Belle does.  Phillips and Shurtleff completely nail down the interaction between Lumiere and Cogsworth, with Phillips doing a great job at providing a flirtatious edge to Lumiere 🙂

Beauty and the Beast’s first show in this season’s AT&T Performing Arts Center Broadway Series in Dallas, was on June 23, there are seven additional presentations while the show runs until June 26th.

We were guests of the AT&T Pac at the Wednesday night performance, and I give Beauty and the Beast a positive review.  The music and comedy are excellently performed, and the sets and costumes are great.  It truly is a delightful show for the whole family that is not to be missed.

  1. This was such a visually stunning show. We regularly attend these family friendly shows. The music in this one was so good too.

  2. Ugh, I wish I had made the decision to buy thickets, it looks like it was so charming. I guess I have to bite the bullet sooner next time to take my family to one of these Broadway Series shows at the Winspear.
