Destination Disney – Adventureland

If you take a left at the hub at the end of Main Street USA, you’ll quickly find yourself in the jungle oasis of Adventureland.

If it’s the start of a cool day in Orlando, you just might have the gumption to go through the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. I make no bets about late afternoon 90 degree weather though, it’s a workout, but then you can treat yourself to a Pineapple Dole Whip (the only place in the park you can get it), as a reward! While I’m somewhat nostalgic about the Treehouse, Genius far preferred the updated Tarzan’s Treehouse in Disneyland. Since she has never seen the Swiss Family Robinson movie, I’m guessing that’s why, but Tarzan is one of her favorites.
The not so witty jokes by the Jungle Cruise pilots, are always fun. I’m pretty sure we’ve heard them all by now. This animal can weigh 500lbs, and jump 20 feet in the air, and it’s the ONLY jungle animal that can do that. However, that pertained to all the jungle animals, and the jungle skipper too lol! (The sad part is we actually believed him when he said that about the first animal…sigh…) Make sure you read all the signage and listen closely to the “announcements” over the loud speaker, that is very entertaining as you wait through long lines!
Of course our favorite attraction in Adventureland is Pirates of the Caribbean.

Within the past couple of years they have refurbished it to go alongside the action packed movies of the same name. Jack Sparrow, and his cohorts are peppered throughout the attraction. My only complaint is they changed the dog at the end holding the keys. The original dog was such an icon!

If you need to take a load off your feet, make a stop at The Enchanted Tiki Room, where the new managers Zazu and Iago (or is that Iago and Zazu?), get the birds and totems rocking! Come on sing it with me (you know you want to) “In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room, in tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room, all the birds sing words and the flowers croon, in the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room

There is also the vaguely familiar Aladdin’s Carpet Ride (probably because it’s Dumbo with carpets instead of elephants) in Adventureland fun for the wee ones, but like Dumbo the lines can get long. On hot summer days the spitting camels can be refreshing though!
