We decorate for the holidays early around our home. Firstly because we grew up in Canada, and since Thanksgiving is celebrated in October there once Halloween has passed it’s a free for all when it comes to Christmas decorating. Secondly not only do I love the holiday decorations, but it takes so much work to get the house all seasonally decorated I want to have it up as long as I can!! Our tree is up every year on November 11th.
Last year we bought a brand new 7′ tall LED Christmas tree. It is bee-you-tee-ful. It’s the first thing you see when you walk into our home and when it’s all lit up at night, you can’t help but get a warm & fuzzy feeling inside.
Our daughter was home from college on Thanksgiving break and she would walk by that tree every chance she got and told my husband how much she loved it. She was a little down because she and Daddy used to decorate the tree together every year. This year though, not being at home, she missed out on that. But we saved one special ornament for her to hang on the tree, and she was delighted with it!
Hallmark kindly sent her a Hiccup and Toothless Keepsake Ornament.
Amber has loved dragons for as long as I can remember, and ever since the first How To Train Your Dragon movie, Toothless has been one of her most beloved characters. She even made one of her own when she couldn’t find a stuffie to buy in the stores.
One day when she has a home of her own and her own tree to decorate, she can take this ornament along with her to start new traditions with her husband and children.
You can share your holiday moments too by entering Hallmark’s #KeepsakeIt Sweepstakes via this URL: http://bit.ly/1sfFwRL. Awesome prizes are up for grabs but the contest is only open through 12/18!
Another way I like to decorate with Hallmark during the holidays is by framing Christmas Cards I buy and we receive.
I always get some awesome cards each year from family and friends and so I started displaying them in frames years after we received them. That makes for affordable Christmas décor that takes very little work and effort.
This year Hallmark sent me these Perfect Snowflake Boxed Cards. They are simply gorgeous with a sparkly embellished snowflake and foil accents.
While I could have used one of the many frames we already have in our home, I bought a wooden craft frame and painted it with silver glitter paint.
I used about 4 coats on it. (This is a Folk Art brand paint, and I love it because the glitter does not come off everywhere!)
It looks so nice just sitting up on our mantle next to our LED candles.
