I’m a big advocator of dental health.  See, my parents had good dental insurance and we always did the 2x a year checkups, but they weren’t sticklers for the brushing 3x a day or the flossing.  So I brushed in the mornings and at nights if I wasn’t “running late” or “too tired.”  Then I graduated high school and suddenly found myself without insurance.  So it was years before I visited the dentist, because I had better things to do with my money, ya know?!  When I got married I was hooked up again with some great dental insurance through my husband’s work and went to to the dentist for a cleaning.  Oh my gosh ya’ll that’s when I was converted to a complete oral hygiene routine.  Nobody, I repeat, NOBODY wants to go through a cleaning like I had to go through.  They actually had to do it in two sessions because the scaling was so bad.  I was in too much pain to even be embarassed.

The dentist actually mentioned to me that keeping clean teeth and gums is not just about dental health but it’s also about medical health.  People often don’t put the two together, as if your teeth and your body are separated from each other.  Maybe it’s because of the way our insurance works, who knows, but in any case a healthy mouth = a healthier body and you can help prevent some serious medical issues just by following a good oral health routine.

So in light of my traumatic dental experience of 1994, I’m glad I get to share with you about Crest Pro-Health Tartar Protection Rinse – the only mouth rinse that delivers both anti-cavity and anti-tartar benefits in one.  It ‘HELPS ESCAPE THE SCRAPE.’  If you’ve ever had to sit in a dental chair for four hours having scaling done that tag line is music to your ears.  I also like Crest Pro-Health Tartar Protection Rinse  because it freshens breath, fights unwanted surface stains (which is great for my 3 cup a day coffee habit) and strengthens weakened enamel.  I’m excited to find out how much less “scraping” the hygenist has to do on my teeth when I go for my next dental cleaning.

Heh but why listen to me?  I’m no doctor, but Dr. Travis Stork, TV host of The Doctors, is and he’s partnered with Crest and Oral-B Pro-Health to help educate that a healthy mouth goes hand in hand with having a healthy body.

He offers some tips & tools to Update Your Health and Oral Health this Summer and All Year Long.

Enjoy Being Active: Finding an activity you enjoy is key to incorporating regular physical fitness into your life. Being active shouldn’t feel like work so choose something you enjoy!

Healthy Snacks: It’s always a good idea to carry healthy snacks with you. Dr. Stork’s go to healthy snack is nuts. Nuts are packed with heart-healthy fats and protein and are an easy option when you’re traveling. If you are allergic to nuts, there are other great snack options like Greek yogurt with berries, hard boiled eggs or veggies dipped in hummus.

Small Steps Can Lead to Big Changes: Small changes can make a big impact on your health. For example, making a healthy swap like fruit-infused seltzer water in place of soda or taking a 30-minute walk every day will help improve your health, one step at a time.

Clean up your oral care: Investing in oral care products that will help protect your mouth against tartar build-up is important and Crest Pro-Health Tartar Protection Rinse provides protection against tartar build-up and cavities.

You can purchase the new Crest Pro-Health Tartar Protection Rinse in drugstores, mass retailers nationwide and on crestprohealth.com for approximately $5.49 (1L).  You can also like Crest on Facebook or follow them on Twitter and Instagram, and use the hashtag #CrestProHealth to receive updates from the brand and learn more about dental care.

How do you keep yourself healthy, both for your overall health and your oral health?

  1. Oh gosh! Oral health is sooo important. I get really frustrated when my 7 year old lies about brushing his teeth and says he lied because he just didn't feel like it. I had a similar wake up moment in March 2013, so we have had mouthwash for all family members ever since!

  2. I love this mouthwash, for various reasons, but one is so that my boyfriend will want to kiss me. LOL.

  3. I have seen the Tarter Protection Line, sounds neat. We really like crest in our home!

  4. I've had some long sessions myself since we didn't have many dental visits growing up. I do much better now except for the flossing. Nice posting to follow a brownie recipe.

  5. I use Crest Pro Health but haven't tried this particular one yet. I am glad to learn about this new one for tarter health and will give it a try.

  6. I've heard about the connection between teeth and your health before. I really need to be more diligent about caring for my teeth as I get tired and end up forgetting to do my oral hygiene routine at night.

  9. This is our favorite mouth rinse. We try others but always go back to this because it leaves our mouths fresh and feeling like we just walked out of the dentist.

  10. Over the last few years I have heard so much about how poor oral health can affect your overall medical health. If that alone is not enough to get folks on track, I am not sure what is!
