I’m a big advocator of dental health.  See, my parents had good dental insurance and we always did the 2x a year checkups, but they weren’t sticklers for the brushing 3x a day or the flossing.  So I brushed in the mornings and at nights if I wasn’t “running late” or “too tired.”  Then I graduated high school and suddenly found myself without insurance.  So it was years before I visited the dentist, because I had better things to do with my money, ya know?!  When I got married I was hooked up again with some great dental insurance through my husband’s work and went to to the dentist for a cleaning.

If we had to put a soundtrack to our family, it would consist of a lot of Disney songs.  Both my husband and I grew up watching the Magical World of Disney and went on trips with our parents to the theme parks.  We honeymooned in Walt Disney World.  From 1990 on we probably have seen (and own!) most of their movies.  And lately around here, it’s all about their cruise ships.

It’s summer.  The kids are out of school.  It’s too hot to be outside, or it’s raining, and they’re complaining they are bored.  Sound familiar?!

I have a solution…take them bowling.  My family loves bowling and it’s a great way to beat the summer heat or get through the rainy days.

At AMF Summer Unplugged each child ages 15 and under registered in the Summer Unplugged program* (Shoe rental not included, but they’re worth paying for.) get two free games every day.  

I was bitten by the travel bug at a very young age.  With grandparents that lived in Germany, relatives in Western Canada and a father that worked for the railroad, it seemed our family was always on a plane, in a car or on a train traveling somewhere. 

Now as an adult world traveler myself, I have often pondered how my mom did it.  Packing, planning, budgeting and wrangling four children with no computer, smartphone or GPS to help her out.  I mean good golly they actually relied on paper and maps to get them to their destinations!

In just 20 days my daughter will turn 17.  That’s given me 17 years to hear it all.  Starting nearly from the day she was born.

I can’t believe you’re not even going to try breastfeeding.

You’re giving her Pop-Tarts for breakfast?  That’s nasty.

She plays too many video games and doesn’t play outside enough.

I drink a lot of coffee and tea which of course after periods of time stains the teeth. We recently had family pictures taken at my brother’s wedding in November, and while I knew I didn’t have “white” teeth, I was a little taken aback at how yellow they actually appeared in the photos. I definitely wanted to change the look of that and brighten them so they looked more polished. Here’s the thing; I WANT to take back my smile — to not be embarrassed or worried about how it looks to others, and I realize that If You’re Not Whitening, You’re Yellowing. Yikes! Who would purposely want to do that?!

Who’s excited for Friday?!! Originally I had not planned to do any shopping…but then I saw some of the deals, on things I want and whooboy…I think I may be out there with my boxing gloves on after all!

Did you know: Clothing and accessories is the most popular gift category this year (28%), more than consumer electronics such as TVs, video games & console, tablets, e-readers, mobile phones (22%); Toys (18%); and books, movies & music (12%)? Good news for me! I’m on the lookout for a smartphone deal, so I guess I won’t have as much competition as I thought!

Global icon and popstar sensation Kylie Minogue, is celebrating 25 years in music with the release of The Abbey Road Sessions.  The album, recorded in London at the legendary Abbey Road Studios with a full orchestra, features 16 classic Kylie songs, all radically reimagined and rearranged.  The album features many of Kylie’s best-known hits including “I Should Be So Lucky”, “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” and “The Locomotion”.
