I love it when educational activities are also fun. When something a child finds engaging is combined with learning, they can spend hours doing it and they soak up so much without even realizing it. That’s exactly what goes on with Lafayette Puzzle Factory’s Crayola Chalkboard Floor Puzzles. A fun way to play with sidewalk chalk inside, and easy on mom because the clean up is minimal.
Lafayette Puzzle Factory is a new company that brings over 20 years of puzzle industry experience to its founding. Their company members have experience, creating, designing, licensing, selling, and manufacturing puzzles, games, cards, and other paper based toys.
Their entire team places great value on producing high quality products using papers from some of the best paper mills in the world, printing on state of the art printing presses and making sure all our products exceed United States and Canadian safety rules. Additionally, they know that a great image is what makes a great puzzle. Everyone involved in the puzzle making process understands that they want to print the best looking puzzle image every single time.
The Crayola Chalkboard Floor Puzzles are available in three 48-piece designs. I was sent the USA Map and Space Zone Puzzles to review. The puzzles come in a great box that has a carry handle, so when the fun is done for the day, it’s easy to pack up and keep all the pieces in one place again.

Clear lots of space on your floor, these puzzles are big! 2 feet by 3 feet, and the pieces are nice and large for little hands to hold.
I love how Lafayette Puzzle Factory made the pieces. The interlocking edges have shapes of stars, hearts, triangles and other shapes, that’s just one example of how learning is tied into these puzzles.
The puzzles are for ages 6+ but I think with some help a 4 or 5 year old child could put this together too.

My favorite of the two puzzles was the USA Map, but that’s just because I’m just a teacher at heart. This puzzle has so many possibilities in a homeschool setting, and no school age child is too old to get some use out of it.
Once the puzzle was complete, we had a great time marking it up with the included piece of sidewalk chalk. We wrote in the state capitals (and gave homage to our home province up in Canada!).

We marked the states we have visited with stars. And marked our next vacation destination, along with a state we one day hope to visit!

We gave the Mouse his due with a mouse head near the coast of Florida and California!

Other ideas we thought of that we will use it for is; Marking Off Time Zones; Recognizing States Where Relatives Live; Using It On Election Night to Show Voting Results. Oh, the things you can do with a map and a piece of chalk!
The chalk is easy to erase and we found it didn’t leave a mess. The one thing we will make sure and do though is have various colors of chalk on hand for when we use the puzzle as a learning resource. We did find the piece included in the puzzle box was difficult to use on the yellow colored states and hard to see.
Likewise the Crayola Chalkboard Floor Space Zone Puzzle can be a great learning tool also. Children can draw their own comets and suns in the universe, as well as learn about shuttles, planets, satellites and more. The objects can be labeled, named or just doodled on while the kids are learning about space.

You can purchase the Crayola Chalkboard Floor Puzzles at Toys R Us. Their mrsp is about $13.00.
