Chili Garlic Crab Dip – Low Fat, Great Tasting

When we purchased our home last spring, one of the things that appealed to me about it was this great backyard deck for entertaining.

Before we even put an offer in on it, I was thinking outdoor summer parties y’all.  (Yes, I was already working on my southern twang too!).  By the time we got settled in it was already fall and we were starting to get settled into our new community and through the winter we made some amazing friends.

We hosted our first casual gathering with some of our new friends earlier this year, just pizza and soda.  I’m a diet girl myself and that’s all I had on the table.  When none of the guys grabbed a can, I asked if the flavors or brands were not to their liking.  I was politely informed by these men… that they don’t. do. diet. ‘Nuff said .

So now I’m gearing up for the warm weather parties we’re planning on hosting on our back deck and I’m armed with low fat, low calorie food and beverages, that are still full of flavor.  I lightened up my favorite Chili Garlic Crab Dip for healthier eating, I bought low fat and whole grain crackers to eat the dip with, and I stocked up on Ten Calorie DPSG (Dr Pepper Snapple Group) soda that are just 10 calories per 12 oz. serving but still taste great.

I was a little scared the first time I made this Chili Garlic Crab Dip – I’m not a spicy/hot food lover, but I made it for a friend’s party where I was asked to bring an appetizer.  Surprisingly enough I kept going back for more even when I got a few chili seeds in my bite.  Because I eat more of this than I probably should when I make this I decided to swap out the high fat items with low fat ones.

Since the rest of my family has the most sensitive taste buds on the planet, I decided to let them try some of the ten calorie DPSG without letting them see the packaging.   They had no idea it was only 10 calories!  My daughter could not tell the difference between the ten calorie A&W and the regular one.  The results were the same with the 7UP and Sunkist.  There is also ten calorie Canada Dry.
