I just finished reading one of the most fun books ever.  Bugs in My Hair.

Is something bugging you? Bestselling award-winner David Shannon shows the funny side of waging war against–oh no!–head lice.

This book is guaranteed to make you laugh–and itch! From the opening picture of a happy, oversized louse appearing with his suitcases, you know these bugs are determined to stay, and Mom is about to go nuts!

Nobody talks about them, but they are everywhere. (Some estimate 20 million children a year host them.) Oh the shame and humiliation of having bugs in your hair! But if you go to school, or have play dates, chances are good you might meet them someday. Maybe you already have! Lucky for you, the unwelcome bugs in this story are so funny you will be laughing aloud–even when Mom attacks them with battle-tested anti-lice weapons.

Shannon peppers his hilarious scenes with fun, “nitpicking” facts about these “lousy” critters and pokes fun at common denial: “It’s probably ash from that volcano in Pogo Pogo.”

Soon the party’s over–Bye bye, Little Nasties! Once again Shannon has created a fresh, highly entertaining read-aloud classic that begs to be read again and again.

I was smiling the whole time I was reading it.  It was the kind of smile that finds its way to a mom’s face because she dreads the “L” word.  Much to my own surprise it’s a great way to make a lice situation a bit more tolerable.  I’ve thankfully never (yet) had to go through the process of eradicating lice in our home, but I had a scare one year.

One reader will win a copy of David Shannon’s Bugs in my Hair, and a spa gift set for Mom (because you know any mom that battles head lice deserves a home spa kit!)

This giveaway is only open to U.S. residents ages 18+ . No PO Boxes. The winner will have 48 hours to respond unless the shipping address entry is completed, and will be randomly chosen. 1. I don't know which was worse, picking bugs out of my daughter's hair late one Sunday night or having to call her best friend's mother to give her the news. This is why my son has a buzz cut. Now I am all itchy.

  2. Oh no! We just finished battling head lice in my 10 year old twins…ugh…it was a nightmare. Would be nice to finally be able to find the humor in the situation! 🙂
