Not long ago one of my friends asked a question to “Texans” on Facebook.  It was just after we moved here and I preceded my answer with “well I don’t know if I’m considered a ‘Texan’ yet…”  The reply I got made me smile “If you live in Texas, you’re a Texan.”  So I’m thrilled as a ‘Texan mom blogger’ to blog about Texas’ very own Wolf Brand Chili, Texas’ #1 Chili.

You’ve got to love a company that doesn’t just listen to feedback from their customers but also acts upon it.  Wolf Brand Chili has introduced a new, heartier chili recipe after their consumers said they wanted a chili with a little more substance.  While I can’t speak to how it compares to their previous recipe since I never had Wolf Brand Chili before we moved to the DFW area, I can tell you that their new recipe is definitely full of good stuff and filling, just the way Texans like it!

You know you’ve got a good thing to put on the table when a brand has been around for over 100 years.  A Texas ranch cook and Lyman T. Davis developed the original Wolf Brand Chili recipe in 1895.  Wolf Brand’s unique blend of seasonings and good hearty beef puts a true taste of Texas in every can.  It’s the perfect chili to use for a Chili Bar party.  Check out these awesome Free Chili Party Printables from LivingLocurto.com to make your Chili Party the talk of the neighborhood.  Just click on the image below to go to Living Locurto so you can download them.

I’m also learning that chili is a big deal in Texas and I wanted to do something besides just put it in a bowl and top it with corn chips (although that is a fine way to eat it too!).  Sunday afternoons/evenings are spent in the living room watching the Cowboys throw around the football.  Finger food is where it’s at, but typically you need utensils when you eat chili.  No spoon is going to hold me back, if one can have fruit turnovers than surely it’s not too much trouble to make Chili Cheese Turnovers, right?!

This is a simple but flavorful snack or meal for game day.  All you need is:

1 can of Wolf Brand Chili, any variety
2 refrigerated pie crusts
shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg, beaten

Preheat your oven to 400℉.  Line a baking sheet with non-stick aluminum foil or parchment paper.

Cut the pie crusts into quarters.  Brush the edge of a quarter with the egg.  In the center of one side of a quarter wedge put two or three full teaspoons (the kind you eat from, not a measuring teaspoon) of Wolf Brand Chili and then sprinkle with cheese.

Fold the dough over the chili filling and seal the edges with your fingers.  Then crimp them with the tines of a fork.

Move the turnover to the baking sheet and pierce the top with the fork a few times so the steam can vent while baking.  Brush the top with the egg wash.

Repeat with the other 7 pie pastry wedges.  Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until the turnovers are golden brown.

Your turnovers may “leak” if the edges aren’t completely sealed and/or you overfill them (I had a few like that, what can I say, I kept wanting to add more chili!).  The lining on the baking pan should make for easy clean up if that happens 🙂

Serve with dipping sauce of your choice, I enjoy Ranch!

Here’s the really great news, you don’t have to live in Texas to get the #1 Texas Chili – Wolf Brand Chili is available nationwide!

Wolf Brand Chili is now thicker and heartier than ever, just the way that Texans like it! The new, thicker and heartier recipe can also be found every day on the shelves of your local grocery store.
