Drinking clean water is very important, but did you know that tap water can affect you throughout your household? Most people know that drinking clean water eliminates chemicals which cause headaches, joint pain, and fatigue. However, there are numerous positives when you shower, cook, and clean with clean water that most people don’t know of. There are 60,000 chemicals in our tap water today and there are different ways that they can reach you.

When you use tap water for showering, you are most likely showering in chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride. These chemicals are generally seen as harmless, but they can cause many noticeable symptoms. Chlorine is used to kill waterborne organisms, but it can dry out your skin and hair, worsen arthritis, cause headaches, and eventually lead to cancers of the bladder and rectum. Fluoride is known for its teeth-strengthening attributes, but it causes more problems than it solves. Fluoride can cause skin rashes such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, or urticaria.

When you cook with contaminated water, the common misperception is that the chemicals are eliminated by the temperature. This is not the case. Unfiltered tap water can add an unpleasant taste to your food and can be as unhealthy as drinking contaminated water. Chlorine can survive at high temperatures, as well as volatile organic compounds or VOC’s. VOC’s can cause eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, loss of coordination, nausea, damage to the liver, kidney, and central nervous system. There is also evidence that they may cause cancer after long-term consumption.

When you brush your teeth with dirty water, you are introducing toxins into your body that you shouldn’t. Although you are getting fluoride from your tap water, your gums are absorbing chemicals into your bloodstream. Doctors now believe there is a significant link between the absorption of chemicals through gums and conditions that include heart disease and diabetes.

So how can you avoid the dangers of tap water in every area of your household? By installing a whole house water filtration system, you can eliminate these chemicals from your shower and every faucet of your home. You will not have to worry about the effects of toxins reaching you in any way and you will notice a positive difference in the way your water and food tastes. Do your body a favor and make sure your water is filtered.
